If he still uses a bottle contaminated nipples can cause a yeast infection. It generally starts in the mouth and passes through the digestive system therefor giving the rash to his bottom areas. I have always been told not to use baby powder, but to use corn starch for the rashes because it keeps the wetness from the skin. Just use the yeast infection cream for his bottom and keep nipples or binkies sterilized. I hope this helped.

A.: Using baby powder is probably why he has the yeast infection. Baby powder does work by keeping things dry but sometimes it draws moisture out and keeps it sitting right there on the surface of the skin. The diaper area is a dark warm place that yeast likes to grow in.
Don't feel bad....it happens to a lot of children, just be glad that you have the right treatment and throw out the baby powder. I usually try to air dry after using lots of wipes. Singing the ABC song and waving the new diaper to dry the area is a good idea. You also should do the same thing when you are using a cream like desitin, triple past, A and D or whatever you use....just be sure his little bottom is fully dry after the wipes.
Hope it heals up nicely. Oh yes...my son a bad rash one time after a stomach virus and the wipes (even sensitive/unscented) ones burned his bottom. So we actually put him in the bath after his poopies for a few days and rinsed off with cetaphil.....it worked great! He was healed up fast. I have also rinsed out the entire package of wipes in the sink with plain water.

If it is a yeast infection sometimes there is really nothing you can do to prevent them. Try airing out your baby a bit after each diaper change. Look at the diaper cream you are using. A rash starts as a regular one and then moves on to a yeast infection. We were using Pink Sav and it seemed to stop helping his rash so we switched back to Aquafor and have not had many problems since. I have NEVER used baby powder. During the worst of the infection I sprinkled a tiny bit of corn starch on it. When I would bath him I added it to the bath to help. Do you use sensitive wipes? When is bottom is red I only use wet wash clothes unless he pooped. Good luck and I am sure it will go away soon. Keep the prescription handy even after it goes away.

Babies can get yeast infections for any number reason including but not limited to the use of antibiotics. You haven't done anything wrong children are like adults in this sense they sometimes get unbalanced just like us. You may want to stop with the baby powders . A lot of Dr.'s now are saying not to use them.Just to clarify Antibiotics are a good thing if your child is prescribed them by all means give them to him. One thing I found with my children that seemed to help in our fight against Yeast was to give my child a cup of yogurt daily. It kind of keeps them in balance it also works for adults, and the best thing is it's completely natural. Hope this helps, Good Luck

We all have yeast in our bodies, when we have a yeast infection it's b/c there is an unusual high level of yeast which causes problems. Boys and girls can get a yeast infection, I am assuming his/her yeast infection is down in the diaper area? You can use the antifungal cream that adults use for athlete's foot, no need for a brand name, generic is fine. But don't worry, sometimes sitting or lying in poop or pee (like at night) can cause a skin rash, but not to fret, just keep loving them and changing them and giving them that extra TLC and you'll be fine.

Was your baby on any kind of antibiotic prior to the yeast infection? Antibiotics can cause yeast infections.

If it only occurs after a bowel movement, then he has internal fungal infection that is coming out in his feces. My daughter had this when very young ( she was born with thrush) and it didn't go away until a month with Nystatin drops in the mouth. Iit is hard to convince doctors that it is internal though.
Internal remedies:
*Caprylic acid is similar to Nystatin and can be obtained without a prescription.
*Magnesium helps fight yeast. (babycalm)
*Probiotics like accidophilus and lactobaccilus help fight yeast.
* NCD zeolite is said to fight yeast
* Cod liver oil can help fight yeast
These are all very safe for children and adults alike as far as all my research has proven.
ps.....Antibiotics will encourage yeast growth - anytime your child is on ABX you have an increased chance to grow internal yeast.

It is not about how clean you keep him.
A yeast infection is common in boys and girls/babies/kids/women.
It can be caused by moisture (like when in a diaper)... or the balance of the urine. Or if he eats many sweet things... "yeast" thrives in sugary environments for example

It can recur. Some kids being more prone to it.

you need to use a yeast cream on it... did his Doc tell you that and recommend one? Our Ped recommends the over the counter yeast creams that women use... for their yeast infections. NOT suppositories... the cream ointment. And use it as directed as on the tube.

Baby powder will not get rid of the yeast infection. You have to use yeast cream.

Yeast can be found naturally on the body. It loves warm moist places... baby powder even when not soiled can become moist naturally from the skin, this starts a nice growing medium for the yeast to take off in. Try not using powder [i know, smells soooo good], if you do insist on the powder, wash every nook and crease and fold every diaper change to be sure you get all the old powder off before adding more.
