At What Point...

At what point in your cycle should you expect to stop getting negative pregnancy tests if you are, in fact, pregnant?

I know that some women test positive much earlier than others due to higher levels of hCG, but is it normal to be on day 30 of your cycle and still test negative if you are pregnant? In essence, my cousin's period should have started Nov. 7 on a 28 day cycle, but sometimes her cycles go up to 30 days, so today would be day 30 for her, and she hasn't started her period. She tested negative yesterday. Is it possible that on day 29 she still doesn't have enough hCG in her system to cause a positivbe pregnancy test? Is it possible to be pregnant and not test positively until days AFTER you miss your period?

(She did have sex right around ovulation, so in that sense, she knows that she 'could' be pregnant. She has no other symptoms, btw.)

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Ok, so she is pretty sure her period started today, so I think that's the end of the saga for this month, at least!

Well for me with my 2nd son it took until day 45 to get a positive pregnancy test. I was a unique circumstance, however, because it was only my second ovulation post-breastfeeding, and I think my cycles were longer than the average 28-30 days. I have heard of this happening, however, to other women - where the blood and/or urine test didn't show positive until a bit after that standard missed period on your 30th cycle day.

I would encourage her to keep testing every few days until it either shows up positive, or she gets her period. I was also want to mention I have never shown symptoms that early either.

Good luck to her :)

K

Tell her to wait a week, then test again. No amount of guessing will make her pregnant or not pregnant :) So many things can cause an irregular cycle even in women who are regular every other month.
Only time will tell. BTW, symptoms of pregnancy & your period are almost identical.

yes! it is very possible for a home pregnancy test to not show a positive result until like around 2 weeks after the missed period even! this happened to my sister. at that point, only days after the missed period, even a test at the doctors office still came out negative...but it turned out she WAS pregnant after all. It is still possible, wait and take the test in a week if she still didnt get the period, and another week after that. after 3 weeks after a missed period then I would say you should be positive result if you are pregnant...

Yes, it is possible. She can wait another week or she can go get blood drawn to find out for sure. I was reading yesterday about the different types of pregnancy test...according to what I read I think E.P.T. uses two different ways to test for HCG meaning it might be more sensitive to pick that up. When I got pregnant though I bought the cheapest one out there and that thing turned up positive within seconds.......she could have also had a faulty test???
