Late Period, Negative Test, All the symptoms...going Crazy!

Hi Moms,

I'm looking for some advice - my period is three days late, and I am experiencing nausea, frequent urination, breast tenderness, etc. - I FEEL just like I felt when pregnant with my two children. However, I took a pregnancy test this morning, and it was negative! My period is usually very regular (I've been charting it for a over a year). I used a Clearblue Easy digital test. Could it have been a "false negative"? Would the Dr. see me at this early stage, or should I wait a full week before calling? I'd really like to know one way or another. Has anyone else had this experience and turned out to be pregnant?

It is very possible to have a false negative. I would test again the next day or so. One OTHER possibility is a luteal cyst which mimics pregnancy....I had that once, they are not that common....basically I had all the signs but kept getting neg. preg. tests results. I eventually got my period a week late.

Possible that you could be pregnant , I was told by a doctor that you can have false negatives but never a false positive , why don't you wait a few more days maybe a week and take another test , if you are pregant it could be that it is so early that you do not have enough of the hormones for it to show up on the test.

Good luck

I've had false negative w/Clearblue and swore I'd never use that test again. Try another test and if it's neg. wait a week, then call doc. Good luck.

I don't think the Dr. would see you at this point (at least, mine didn't when the san=me thing happened to me). They told me to wait a few days and take another test. I did, and it was +!

Hi! I had several negative tests with each of my kids. I had to wait a full week after my missed period before I saw a positive result. Good luck!

Hi,

I would call the dr office and have them order a blood test.
This way, you would know for sure?!

Good luck and God Bless!

the doctor would most certainly see you for a preg test, but not for the preg itself. Take two more on your own, there are definately false negatives. Three days late on your period, the test should come back positive if you are, it did for me both times. Go and get a couple more and see your doc. if you want another confirmation. If you are, congratulation!

I just had this happen...turns out for me I was just late, BUT- in the process I learned that the first response tests require the least amount of hcg (prego hormone). I would go out and get those tests. Peestick.com lists all the tests and their required hcg levels to be positive. I waited until I was 12 days past my expected period to call my doc and asked for a lab slip for a blood test- of course on the way home from picking up the lab slip I got my period. (Murphy's law!) You didn't specify if you were trying to concieve- if so- I hope it works out that you are pregnant!! Good luck and keep us posted! :)

This happened to me with all three of my pregnancies, including my current pregnancy. They say if you take the pregnancy test first thing in the morning, you are more likely to get accurate results. However, I was over a week late before I got those results. I tried alternating tests, but they were still negative. I am now a mother of two boys and a third on the way. I did end up calling the doctor before I got that positive result and they just scheduled me for my 8 week appointment, I figured by then if I still didn't have my period, something was going on :) Good luck!

This happened to me and I was not pregnant, just a week late. And I also have very regular periods, so that was very unusual. I know it is difficult not knowing, but I would wait a few more days and then maybe try another test if your period hasn't started. Good luck, and I hope everything works out for you.

If you've been charting your period, that mean that you've been charting your temperatures? If so, has your temperature risen after ovulation? If it's high for 18 days after ovulation, it's an indication you're pregnant.

It is possible to get a negative test and still be pregnant. You may be so early (in pregnancy) that the HcG is not readable. If you're really concerned, though, I'd give the doctor a call.
