I signed my son up for tackle football in August. He'll be wearing one for that sport (he'll be almost 7)
Hi All,
It's officially baseball season again here at my house! I am curious at what age you guys started making your little boys wear a cup (athletic supporter) for baseball?
My boys are 9 & 7 and have both been playing since they were 4y/o and it was mandatory for my oldest starting last year but I was wondering if I should just start having my 7y/o get used to it this year? It is 'recommended' by the youngests' Coach but not a requirement just yet.
Do you guys buy your sons the compression shorts and the sliding shorts? We are going shopping to get the youngest a new Mitt tonight...just wondering if and what else I should grab while I am out!
Just wanted to get other's opinions.
As always ANY and ALL thought and comments appreciated!
Thanks Guys!
Thanks guys!
And so it begins again, with the 'grabbing and adjusting' in public....agh! Boys!
The compression shorts with the built in pocket are the coolest things ever! My 7y/o saw the jock strap and was like "I am so NOT wearing a bikini thing"! Hahahahah!

At any age he can get kicked "you know where"!
A cup is mandatory here starting with tball, so by 5, my son was wearing a cup.
As soon as he began sparring in taekwondo (blue belt level) no matter what age you are.
No compression shorts, just a cup.
Every belt testing - it NEVER fails - someone doesn't wear or forgets to wear it and sure enough - they get kicked in the crotch and there's at least 15 minutes of crying and intense pain.
It's not that anyone aims for there - but accidents happen.
For anyone who sees that - they never want to go through anything like that - so they stop complaining about having to wearing one.
Where we live, mandatory cup wearing begins at age 6 for baseball.
T-Ball and Hockey...we started at 4/5
My kids are in karate and it is mandatory during sparring class regardless of age. So hypothetically, if a 2 year old were to spar he'd have to wear a wee little cup. Now I'm cracking up picturing that.
They should be worn at any age in any sport with potential contact, so I'd say Yes to buying one for the 7 year old.
Also, I'm so tired of handling cups, straps, and other dude paraphernalia. For once the men and boys around here should have to buy and wash my bras.
Age 6 for us..needed for hockey and lacrosse. We have the hockey style compression shorts.
We just use the compression / sliding shorts. It is mandatory here starting at t-ball.
my boys started playing at 6 and it was mandatory. just make it a hey this is a rule thing and there you go
My son started last year in kindergarten and it was mandatory. I think it's a good idea at any age.
