I had a similar situation before I got preggers with my daughter, now 2. My doctor had to put me on birth control pills for 3 cycles to somewhat kickstart my cyles again. It worked and within 6 months after stopping the pills I was pregnant.

Precious one, I know how hard it is to want something so badly you can taste it, but as I'm sure you have heard a million times, sometimes it is best to rest, relax, and "let go and let God."
As a mom and nana, at the age of 56, when I look behind me, I can see that the things I struggled so hard to get, fussed and fretted over, were really things I didn't need in the long run. The things I thought I didn't need and ended up with anyhow...were the things I cherished most.
I will be praying that you can relax and in His time...your heart's desire and His will can meet.

When was your last depo shot? I just read that the average return to fertility is 9 to 10 months after the last injection.

Have you talked with your doctor about your lack of period and your desire to get pregnant? He or she may have some answers that will relieve your mind. Which, is exactly what you need to do (I know easier said than done!). It is proven that women who are under a lot of stress have a harder time getting pregnant and it sounds like you have yourself under a lot of stress.
When my husband and I decided to try for a second, I obsessed about it as well, for awhile. Assumed I wouldn't be able to have another, wondered what was wrong with me, with him . . .you know the drill. My husband said something to me one day that startled me, he said "we have a beautiful family now, a wonderful healthy 5 year old, we need to focus on that right now and if we have another that will be an added blessing" Remind yourself on a daily basis what a wonderful husband and daughter you are, count the blessings you have, talk with your doctor and hopefully, before long, that little stick will have two pink lines!

How long have you been off the depo? I too was on the depo shot and when my husband and I decided to have a baby...well it wasn't as easy as we thought. I went thru the premarin to restart my system, then the clomid for fertility. The clomid was a nightmare. We went thru 14 months of holding our breath, taking my temperature, my husband coming home from work "at just the right moment"..everything and still nothing. My doctor told me that after ceasing the depo the average wait is 13 months, but it can take longer. I was almost 30 and didn't think I had that much longer and it seemed the longer we waited the more in a rush I got. He decided that maybe I was having problems ovulating due to scar tissue from ovarian cysts. He scheduled me for laproscopic surgery to check the tubes and uterus, remove any endometriosos and also laser drill some holes in my ovaries for easier egg release. I just knew this was going to solve my problems and I guess for a change I relaxed and took a break from the stress and pressure of "trying". I had the surgery and found out 2 weeks after my surgery that I was pregnant, was pregnant during the surgery but it was too early to show up in bloodwork. The surgery was during the implantation period and I stood a 90% chance that the embryo was "flushed" and even if it wasn't it probably wouldn't hold. I was devastated. To have worked so hard and waited so long...for that to happen due to my impatience. Thanks only be to GOD, I now have a 6 almost 7 year old son very healthy son. My advice is if you have been off the depo less than a year. Relax and enjoy yourself. The pressure you are feeling has a profound effect on your body and your ability to conceive. If it has been over 2 years since your last dose, then you may want to ask about the laproscopic surgery. It would at least allow them to see if there is any endometriosis or other scarring preventing it. Good Luck!!!

I stopped Depo due to side effects, not because we were trying to get pregnant, but it did take my body quite some time to return to "normal". I do know that living/being around other women who are having regular periods may help regulate some women.... That's about the only thing I can think of.

See if your Dr can put you on the birth control pill to get your cycles back.

I am struggling with the same issue. And I've spoken with my doctor about it many times. I was on depo for 4 years, and have been off of it for 6 months. still no period. My doctor says not to worry, it will come. She said that it could take up to 3 years depending on how long I was on the shot. Also, just because you arn't having a period doesn't mean that you can't get pregnant. As soon as the shot gets out of your system, (3 months usually) you start ovulating regularly again, which is what causes you to get pregnant. So, don't worry, it may be a little harder for you to get pregnant than it was before, but it will happen, and it has nothing to do with your period. Just be patient and don't lose hope! I will keep you in my prayers!

My cousin had the same problem, only she tried for a year for another child. Once she had talked to her OB/GYN, she was prescribed birth control pills (ortho-trycyclen lo) for two months to control and balance her missed and off-balanced periods. She later became pregnant within three months after she finished taking the pills.

Come to find out - she had been on the depo shop for so long, that her body was still reacting on the shot's medication. So, she never fully adjusted to being back to normal after stopping the shot.

I can't say the same will work for you, but just talk to your doctor and see what your options are.

Poor thing! I've never done well on any type of birth control pills or shots. I know this may sound crazy- but I have heard people say it works for a variety of issues where the body is not functioning as it is made to. Have you tried a body detox? To get rid of residual chemicals in your body that may be keeping it from functioning as it should. You can get herbal pills that detox your body's organs and blood at health food stores. It may not be the answer but if time has failed- what could it hurt?

I have been on depo ever since becoming sexually active. I know it's different for everyone, but I will tell you, you don't HAVE to get your period back to concieve. And it doesn't have to be regular. But it can take at least 2 yrs to get all the hormones out of your system. I suggest using a fertility tracking method to "try" to get pregnant. I used www.fertilityfriend.com. And if, after 3-6 months of trying, nothing happens, talk to your doctor, there may be another factor involved. By the way, I know it says "S."-my husband set this account up not me.

D., it sounds to me like you need to speak with your gyno as soon as possible. I was on the depo for two years after having my daughter(now 4.) I took my last shot in Nov. 2004 I should have gotten another in Feb.2005, but we decided to try for Baby #2. I had my first normal period in April 05, and I got pregnant in June 05. My Dr. told me it would be at least a year to 18months before I would become regular enough to plan to and become pregnant. It didn't take me long at all to get pregnant, (Hubby or myself or both must be VERY fertile)HAHA!! I don't think it should take this long to get pregnant, I would speak with my Dr. ASAP Maybe you and your hubby should both be checked out just to make sure everything is O.K. Hope this helps. the dr can give you a pill to take to make you start your period im not sure what its called

I took depo after my daughter was born for one year. After 1 1/2 years off the shot and not on any bcp, I went to my ob/gyn. She told me because I was thin, the depo deposits in my fat cells were so strong that I was still receiving the effects of the shot. She gave me pills to take for two weeks that re-started my period. Then I took ortho-tri-cyclen for three months. We conceived immediately after I stopped those bcp. Speak with your ob/gyn; he/she can help. Good luck!

Check with your Ob-Gyn. There is medication they can give you to make you have your cycle. This might be all you need to kick-start your body back into regular cycles. They gave this to me when I was going through fertility treatments. I have polycystic ovaries and had not had a period for eight months.
