My OB/Gyn told me I was allowed 1 Diet Coke a day. I think it's one of those things they like to limit just in case.
My husband and I are in the process of trying for a baby. I've been drinking diet soda for about 6 months now in hopes to loose some weight before I get pregnant again. I'm just wondering does aspartame consumption have any risks associated with conception?
I drink less than 20 ounces a day, but usually less than that. I am not having trouble conceiving; we just started trying this week and I actually think (without being able to prove it yet) that I am pregnant. But I just now thought about the soda (cause you think of these things when there is possibly a life inside you) and I'm wondering if the last 6 months of drinking diet soda is harmful if I stop drinking it now?
I figure it's just better to be safe than sorry. I've cut soda completely out of my diet. It's not like I really need it. Water is always my best bet. And it curbs my hunger.
Thanks for all your input!

I'm not sure what doctors say about taking in aspartame while trying to conceive but I do know that once you are pregnant, they don't want you take it (or not as much). My doctor told me no diet sodas when I was pregant and if I really wanted soda, to have a regular Coke/Pepsi. She also told me that aspartame is an appetite stimulant so even if they have less calories than sugar, they make you hungry and she wanted me to keep my weight gain to a total of 25 lbs (I'm petite). My guess is, you're fine and that diet soda in moderation is not harmful - but that's just me and you should check with a doctor. Good luck!
I have heard very bad stuff about aspartame, you should check the web about negative effects of aspartame, its pretty serious. Im sure you could google it and get lots of info. Isnt it great when you realize that all of these things your putting in your body may have an affect on your little one someday and all of a sudden you want to treat your body better. Happy awakening, good luck.
Aspartame is very dangerous and damaging at any time and I would think it would be especially bad during pregnancy. Aspartame had been linked (though not officially) with cancer, especially bladder cancer and I would definitely stay away from it. At least real sugar just rots your teeth and makes you fat - we can deal with that!
Fake sugars seem to be far more destructive and insidious in nature, as their sside effects are hidden and far more lethal.
I practically lived on Diet 7-Up when I was pregnant, and my kids seem fine? You could always buy diet soda that has Splenda instead - at least that is actually a sugar derivative, so it's hard to imagine "they" could say anything too bad about it. Good luck with your pregnancy!
Not sure abour aspartame and conception, but I do know my OB told me to stay away from aspartame period! From what I have been told it is not good for youat all, especially if you have any bladder control problems (incontenice)(sorry can't spell right today, which alot of women have problems with after child birth! GOOD LUCK on conceiving!!!
