Are You Receiving a Gift for Mother's Day?

Does your SO buy your a traditional present for Mother's Day? Do you pick out something you want or get a surprise? Is it just flowers? Do you have any kind of family gathering for the day or just do your own thing?

I'm just curious....we're in the midst of a home purchase so I asked DH not to shop or do anything extravagant this year. I am actually just taking "off" on Saturday for me. Haircut that was already scheduled, a mani/pedi that my MIL got for me and lunch with girlfriends. On Sunday, we'll probably get together with my in-laws. All the other moms and grandma's are out of town, so we just sent cards and a recent photo of the kiddo.

What can I do next?

I certainly hope not! Whatever someone gives me I'm going to have to find a place for! LOL!!!

Seriously, all I want is a dinner I don't have to cook and sleep. No card, no flowers, no "stuff". :P

gifts are always nice, but I don't need anymore STUFF. My gift is always just a day with the family. Doubt they'll even get me a card and it's ok....the fewer trees cut down in my honor the better!!!

I usually request to not get a gift. To me, it is irrelevant. I just want to be able to hang out and relax with the family w/o 95 errands to run...that is gift enough!

However this year I am putting in a request for a gift: "Please dear God, please let me go into labor, I'm done being pregnant and a Mother's Day baby would be so precious!". OK, I'm done now ;-)

Mother's Day is a huge disappointment every year. When I reminded my husband it was coming up this weekend he got annoyed and sighed, so my expectations are a big zero. I did send the grandmas flowers and cards, but don't expect much of anything on Sunday. I fully expect to be asked Saturday night, "So, what do you want to do tomorrow?" with my husband expecting me to plan something for myself at the last minute.

Sigh. I hate this holiday.

I am told EVERY day is Mother's Day at our house! REALLY?!?!? Ha! Ha! I may get a card. I did buy myself 3 Personal Trainer visits at the gym last week and secretly told myself they are my Mother's Day gift :)

No, but next weekend I am going back home for four days by myself to see my friend graduate, so I told my husband NO GIFTS. The cost of the flight is quite enough. Usually I have to pick out my own gifts, hubby really sucks at it. :)

I've been a mother for 27 years and my husband has always told me that I am not his mother. The day belongs to his mother. We don't even call it Mother's Day in our family, it's Mimi's Day. (My mother lives out of state and we send her flowers.) We celebrate MY mother's day on Saturday with a family activity. Mother's Day is not about things, it's about time together. It really doesn't matter to me that we celebrate on a different day than most families.

I love Mother's Day because we just spend the whole day(sometimes the entire weekend) doing what I want to do. I don't get an actual present because I always tell my hubby not to buy one...I don't need one. This year we are hitting garage sales and then working on planting new flowers in the backyard. I just enjoy doing the things I love(for free!) with the people I love!

My husband has to work sunday, so all i have asked for is a day alone with my kids... and no IN-LAWS! My kids are 8 months so i dont think they have made any plans. The only thing that would make the day better would be if the housecleaning fairies stopped by and cleaned house.

I dang well better get something! It could be watching the girls so I can have some time to myself or a date with my hubby (hasn't happened in 3 years), but SOMETHING better be done to mark the day! Especially with all the junk I have put up with from him this last two years! :p

Nothing planned as far as I know; typically we do not do anything for mother's day ... I did order my Mom some flowers from me and my sister's this year.

We don't have anything that is standard, I think one year I got money, last year I got these nice dishes, my hubby has always done something bc the kids have been so young and we always do a nice meal out. I sure don't want to cook!! This year I have already gotten the best gift of all. My son, who will be four in July, was with me while I was shopping for all the mamas in our families. He said, "mommy I want to get you a present!" I told him that I was with him so it wasn't the best time. When his dad got home he immediately went to him and told him that they need to go and get me a present! Plus he says he just can't wait till mother's day :D So I am all good!!

Generally the kids make something at school and bring it home. Hubby brings me flowers all the time so I can't remember if I get them on MD or not! But he does ALWAYS plan a meal with us, the kids and my mom. and him and the kids usually make me breakfast and I get coffee in bed (which he does anyway every day for me!). He also buys me something nice that I usually "hint" at. I already got mine this year, it's a nice 5 piece patio set...ready for the pool this summer! There are so many posts of disappointed women that I always say "SAY EXACTLY WHAT YOU WANT AND EXPECT!!!" If your husband is so disrespectful to disregard your feelings and wishes, then I would have to rethink my relationship. I am blessed and I know it every day! :o)

I usually get a card from the kids via my hubby. I send out cards to my Mom, MIL, and our Grandmothers. This year I am also sending one to my BF from her cats, lol!
We usually have lunch with my inlaws, but we are getting together Sat. So on Sunday, I am meeting my Mom for lunch and a movie!

Mother's Day is not a big deal since we are far from my mother and MIL and my kids are grown. My daughter is married and since we got to spend Easter with them, they will go to her MIL's this year. My son is studying abroad so I'm sure I will get to Skype with him (a real treat). We make phone calls and I try to get cards out on time to my mom and MIL.

I don't put any pressure on my husband and kids to find the perfect gift or make it the perfect day because I have always felt loved and don't need to see something special on Mother's Day. I just let them know that I am so blessed to have them. Each year I always made sure I told them I loved what they did and why it was so special (usually flowers and handmade cards, breakfast in bed when they were little). We go out to eat, too. Sometimes it was fast food if money was tight. It really didn't matter.

If there is something I really like to have or need, I just let my husband know. There were times when I put clothes that I liked on hold at a store and my family could pick something out.

In our house, I somehow got put in charge of all the holidays/gift buying, so it nevers occurs to my husband to get me something since it's not HIS chore. This goes for birthdays and Christmas as well (although hubby did buy himself a grill for my birthday one year). Whatever I get is whatever the kid makes at school (except last year, when he gave it to hubby as a gift!), or whatever I give myself. This year I'm giving myself an all-day scrapbooking crop the day before...which means I'll be catching up on all my Saturday chores (mopping, laundry, weeding) on Mothers Day. But sometimes it's worth it.

My ULTIMATE gift would be to sit down at one meal - just ONE - and sit there from start to finish, and not have to pick up food or utensils off the floor, clean up a spilt cup, or make someone "something else" because the food was "yucky." In 6 years, the only time I've had that was when I was in the hospital giving birth!!!

So that's my Mothers Day. My mom passed away several years ago and we are estranged from MIL, so it's pretty much a non-holiday in our family. Of course, Fathers Day is a HUGE deal tho.

Last year I spent the day with my mom. I took her out to lunch and went shopping all day. I honestly can't remember if I got anything, I think I might have told my husband not to get me anything. This year he gave me my present early because he just didn't want to wait. He got me a salon spa package where I get a massage, manicure, pedicure and get my hair done. The place isn't open on mothers day, so I am going the weekend after. I will spend the day with my mom on mothers day just like last year. I honestly wish he hadn't spent so much money on me, I just really wanted to hang out with my mom for the day, but it was a great surprise.

it varies. This year our 6 year old daughter has a "project" she is working on. We had their yearly portraits done last weekend and she went aside with the photographer to take care of business. I am so excited.

We are also going to spend Sat night at a cabin up the road a ways for some much needed relaxation. We will probably go to breakfast on the way home sunday and then spend time with the grandmas.

I get the EXACT same thing every year and I LOVE IT!

I see Rick Springfield for four nights and get to hang out with all my "Rick Chicks" that come in from all over the country. My husband uses his vacation time and takes over just aboout everything from about 2:00 on each day so I can go do "tourist" things with my friends.
