Anyone with a Newer Model Toyota Venza, Honda CR-V or Ford Edge?

My husband was in a car accident last night and his car is likely totaled. We're researching replacement cars and have narrowed it to three front-runners: Toyota Venza, Honda CR-V and Ford Edge. All have roughly the same gas mileage, features and great reviews. We owned an older CR-V and loved it, but don't know about the redesigned newer versions. Would love to hear any personal experiences with 2008+ versions of these cars, since we'd be buying a 2011 and much can change over the years. It won't be a family car most of the time; mostly used for work and he'll need to be able to haul lots of computer equipment in the back (he's a computer consultant).

Thanks in advance for any feedback!

So What Happened?

Thanks so much for all of the feedback! Well, in the end we ended up deciding on an Acura RDX. It was about the same price as the Venza but offered more.

Sorry to hear about your accident. I hope your husband was okay. We own a 2010 Honda CR-V and love it. This is our soccer, beach, snow, camping and Costco car as it hauls a lot of stuff, the seats adjust into many configurations making it easy to fit everything we need, and it is easy to clean. The on-demand 4wd is great. We've taken it through this year's blizzards in the Sierras and it drove like the roads were dry. So far after a little over a year's ownership and many trips, we've had no issues.

We've got 2 kids, one in a booster and one in a car seat who fit great. We've fit three boosters and 2 boosters + a car seat in the back.

Wonderful family car.

I have the 2009 CR-V and like it a lot. Good amount of space, high safety ratings. The only thing is that it lacks power. When you press on the gas, it takes a little bit of time before it accelerates which is why my husband hates to drive the thing (he has his own car). I'm not too bothered by it though. Good car otherwise.

We have a Ford Edge - 2009 I think. We absolutely love it. The trunk space is huge and it has the ability to fold down the back seat for more room for his equipment. It is like driving a car, it doesn't feel big or bulky at all. Another feature that we LOVE is that the back seat floor is flat, there is no hump in the middle, so it is really nice to have another area to throw the stroller or whatever else you need to fit in there. I highly recommend the car.

I have a 2007 CRV and I'm very happy with it. I was concerned because it's only a 4 cylinder, but it has more than enough power for merging into highway traffic, and going up huge hills. Only 2 minor problems, the tire sensor had some problems in the beginning, and so when it actually went on due to a problem I ignored it for awhile and wound up with a flat. The other problem was with the digital part of the dash board. It handles great in the snow! It also holds quite a bit in the back storage area.

I have a 2010 CR-V and love it! I did a lot of research on the vehicles and the CR-V is the least expensive to own over time (according to the people who study these things), which can be expensive in itself. The Edge is bigger I believe. I love all of the upgrades done to the CR-V and better gas mileage. Good luck in you choice!

We have a 2008 Honda CRV and I absolutely LOVE it-only problem we have had is that after 30,000 miles the tires needed to be replaced-$650.00! But its roomy and its easly to get car seats in and out of. Highly recommend it!
