I have a 2 year old son and he generally is erect when he wakes up in the morning or from his nap, I know this is normal, my question is that it seems to be so stiff that he is in pain. Yesterday I took his diaper off to change it when he woke up and he crabbed it and said ouwee, today again, yet today I hadn;t even taken his diaper off and he was saying it. It has seemed to be uncomfortable for a while now but almost appears to be getting worse. I called my pediatrician and she said if the erection goes away she isn;t to concerned but I don;t feel it's normal if he is in pain. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

My son did that for a while, too. He would grab himself or hit his groin. After a while it went away. Hang in there.

I remember this with my son too. It ould be now that your son is just more aware of the sensation he has and is communicating it as an owie. But I'd also inquire about if he may have a bladder infection and that could be where the pain is coming from.

Hi K.,
My son does the same thing. His hurts when its erect and he tries to 'get it down'. He calls it his elephant.
It's kind of funny. I never knew this about little boys until I actaully had one.
Monitor for infections, otherwise its normal.
Good Luck!

If there is no rash or other physical abnormality in the area, then it could just be a type of growing pain. Along with all of his other bones, organs and tissues, it too is growing. When he becomes inflated the sensation may be particularly apparent to him.

Sounds like he could have maybe a bladder/kidney infection or even a yeast infection. Does he act like it itches or anything? I would think if it keep on, pedi should take a look. Good luck..

Now you know what it is like to be a boy. LOL

I generally think he is just becoming aware of the strong sensation, and it isn't hurting him. But do monitor this to see if there are any complications. I'd bet he just gets used to it and his discomfort subsides.

He may have a bladder infection. You may want to take him in to see his doctor. They just need a small sample of his urine to test.

"My pee-pee's weally weally stwong!" =(

I have heard this very sad-sounding phrase coming from my son numerous times. He'd whine it at me and he was, otherwise, not a whiny boy. I never got concerned, I just assumed that was part of boys learning to deal with their parts. My husband would laugh and tell me that he remembers using those same words (he has very early childhood memories). I don't have a clinical explanation for you, but my son's almost 3 1/2 y.o., and I don't recall having heard it for a while now. Good luck to you!~ So much of this job is a guessing game.

I wouldn't worry. I think that if it were something more, like a bladder/kidney infection, that you'd see other symptoms and pain would be at other times and not just when erect. My son was around 2yo when he first became aware of having an erection. It made him very uncomfortable and he communicated it as "hurting". He complained quite a bit when erect. I have vivid memories of him trying to remove his clothes, I'm guessing to give more room and relieve the pressure. I suspect that your son probably experienced the same thing when he touched it and only has "owie" to express his discomfort. I just told my son that this was normal and if he left it alone it would go away in a minute. It always did and now he handles it all on his own.

One issue could be the pressure of a full bladder and an erection. Having both can be uncomfortable.
