Anyone Seen Bridge to Taribithia?

My 8 year old daughter wants to go see this movie which I'm sure is okay for her. However, the preview looks rather intense and I'm afraid it might be a little scary for my 5 year old daughter. Any feedback?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks to everyone for the movie reviews. I have also heard that it is very sad and will make you cry. I think I'll take some of you up on your advice to read the book to her first. That really helped when she went to see Narnia and now it's one of her favorite DVDs.

Anytime we want to see a movie, I always check this site first...

http://www.kids-in-mind.com/

it's a website used for parents that has real ratings based on things we want to know about movies -- sexual content, language, etc.

It was sad, but heart warming and hardly intense at all... I actually expected more. My 3 year old nephew loves this movie (which suprises me b/c I thought it would be boring for a child). Take them to see it, they will like it!

It's perfectly fine for an 8 year old. The trailer makes it seem more intense than it really was. My eight year old daughter enjoyed it especially since we read the book the two weeks prior to the movie coming out. It really helped her to understand the characters better.

My fourteen year old took me to see it and it was not scary. It was a little sad and I was crying like a baby for a few minutes. Good movie!

Have you read the book? Maybe try to read parts of the book together. Usually books give more detail than movies. If she's ok with the book, then see the movie or rent the dvd when it goes to Blockbuster. My brother took his 5 year old son to see it and they really liked it.

Disney should have issued a warning about this movie: INCREDIBLY SAD. Heart-wrenching. My BIG, BAD-A$$ hubby was crying in this movie and I was bawling!! BAD DISNEY, BAD!!!

Now with that out of the way, the imagery is fine for an 8 year old. My 4 year old didn't really get it.... And the clips they showed on commercials were about the extent that you see of "Tarabithia". It was OK, but if you go...as a mom, BRING A BOX OF KLEENEX. :>

Hi Cathy,
My family and I went to this movie over the weekend. I have a 10 year old and 6 year old. They really enjoyed it. I don't believe in the contex of the movie your little one would be scared however every child is diff. To me the story was more of a drama, imaginative movie where the message is allow your mind to be free and think of all the possiblities. I was pleasantly suprised. Hope this helps.

We took our 7 yr old and almost 10 yr old boys to see it a couple of days ago. How well does your daughter handle death? One character dies about 3/4 of the way through. My boys handled it better than i thought they would, but a little over a year ago my grandfather died and they had their first close-up experience with death and we have spoken of it often and answering the questions as best we can. It was otherwise a pretty cute movie where a couple of bullies get taught a lesson or two and imagination in play is shown. My 2 yr old wasn't scared or upset by the movie either.

I havent seen it but my aunt and cousin said it was NOT what they expected and to bring some tissues. You can always do what my aunt does and she goes and sees any movies that the kids want to see 1st (unless animated type stuff) just to make sure.
