I am NOT talking about you wish you could have one more kid!

I am asking for those to share their not so glowing stories of life/sex/relationship after a vasectomy or tubal....

I generally hear very good things on this site about both surgeries, but every once in a while I read something not so wonderful and I wonder, How common is this?

I have done google searches that come up with lots of chat rooms/support groups for those dealing with chronic pain(w/ vas), foul discharges, severe mood swings/pms, heavy long periods or having to go on birth control or depression meds to deal (w/ tub) but when I ask around to those I know they haven't expereinced anything like this...so I am broadening my search...

My husband and I have a agreement that he will be snipped when the time comes, unless for some reason I have a c section then I will be snipped...but this is sometime in the future and of course I will be talking to doctors before we make our final decision but I keep seeing questions about these surgeries and thought I would ask too :) Thanks and please send me a private message if you don't want to advertise your experience!

My hubby had his vasec recently. He mentioned some sensitivity and pressure in the testicles after the procedure. We're thinking maybe it's full and the fluid has no where to go :) It's getting less and less overtime. Other than a bit of soreness that he can handle without a painkiller, he was up and about the next day. And completely fine after a week. The procedure itself only last for few minutes. I only waited for about 20 minutes before he came out.

We've had no problems. Husband was tender and sore for a few days but that is all. He said he was happy to do it because it's much safer than for a woman to get it done, and it's quite freeing to not have to "worry" about it in the back of your mind. No physical differences except the semen might be a little clearer.

Hi JA,
I had a tubal after my third child.
And yes, the worst side effect for me has been that I cannot have another child.

That aside, I HAVE had early perimenopausal symptons for the past 3 years. I'm 44 now. There is no early menopause in my family, I did not have an early period (15), etc. So yes, for ME, I DO think my tubal had something to do with early menopause.

On the other hand, my sister, who had a tubal after her second child, at age 33, is 47 and has had NO menopausal symptoms whatsoever.

Hope this helps!

:)

My husband had a vas 6 yrs ago and went like a charm. Good friend decided to have her tubes tied before she went home from giving birth to 2 child and started having problems 2-3 yrs later, heavy, heavy bleeding, imbalanced hormones, miscarriage, which eventually sent her into menopause at 41 yrs old. Now at 43 she is on hormone replacement therapy to balance her hormones. She was suffering from fatigue, weight gain, zero libido, severe moodiness, etc. I don't know if it was the tubal but I wouldn't take it too lightly. Men seem to get the better deal with the vasectomy.

Stick to the vasecotomy. The only side effect was hubby has slight pain sometimes during sex. It doesnt hinder anything just a little soreness. It was the best decision.

my ex was snipped and had no problems. When I had my tubal last summer the worst (and only problem I had) was the gas from the surgery settled in my legs and I was in extreme pain for 3 days. Couldn't walk, stand, nothing. I laid there and cried. They upped my pain meds to the highest dose legal out of the hospital. I didn't even notice any pain from the incisions. But the Dr told me its not common to be that extreme. My SIL, her periods became extremely heavy after hers to where she has to take birth control to lighten her periods. My mom's went from 3 day period to 9 days and heavy.
