My son just got his associates degree with our local college and is now looking to get his bachelors in video game design. Does anyone know of a reputable online university that offers this? We've searched online, but it's hard to know what's legit and what's not, and would much prefer word-of-mouth. Thanks!

He needs to transfer to a four year college and get his degree is computer science, specifically coding and programming. There's no such thing as a legit "video game design" degree, he needs a solid Bachelor of Science degree if he's serious about game design. My son is a senior at Northern Arizona University and about to get this exact degree (exciting!) and even though he's not planning to design video games it's part of the program.

The University of Utah in Salt Lake City has an excellent, academically solid game design program (yes, such things do exist in the legitimate academic world). But it is not an online program. It is a full 4 year, on campus program. Internship possibilities in the area include Adobe and Disney.

"Reputable" and "Online" are a hard combo to come across.
He needs to get a real diploma from a real brick and mortar university - and watch out for the diploma mills!
They'll be happy to take your money but the degree you earn isn't worth the paper it's printed on.

He can transfer his current credits to an accredited 4 yr school.
Some places have a 3/2 deal (bachelors in 3 yrs and masters in 2 additional years).
It takes research, but if he does his homework, he can find a school which will be a good fit for him and will help him launch his career.

Not sure about online at all. I think it would be very challenging to do the entire degree online. The University of California at Santa Cruz has an excellent program: https://www.soe.ucsc.edu/departments/computational-media/...

Gaming Design is a popular and highly competitive degree/field.

My boys are gamers, too. We strongly encouraged our oldest to major in Computer Engineering, which pretty much covers everything, including Game Design.

He graduated from RIT last year, and now works for Lockheed Martin designing sensor systems for the new F35 Stealth Bomber. Which is like game design, only way cooler.

Since your kid is already 2 years in, why not go all the way?
