this is just a rhetorical question but if you dont have your periods? Where does it go?? That scares me.

Hey, T....

Since the mirena is such a new-to-the-market bc method, I think your best bet would be to talk to your OB/Gyn about it, thoroughly. Be sure and ask what the long-term effects are, including both pro's and con's. If he can't tell you positively, I would use another form of bc. Make sure you understand the risks, too, and how it's applied/removed. You will also want to know specifically what the side effects can be, so if you develop symptoms, you can have it removed immediately.

I'm all for the new technology that medicine is coming up with, but I also like to stay on the cautious side of things, and absolutely being fully informed.

Hope this helps, and congrats on the new baby, too!

T.--I had the mirena and now I don't. What I've learned is that if you are able to take birth control pills without any problems, this may be for you. I had a very difficult time. Basically, had a light period for almost 11 months and pelvic and joint pain. I also got a secondary infection probably from insertion. I have heard some good stories and some bad ones. It's like anything else you might try. Somethings work for some people and not for others. The good thing is that it is easily removed if you need to. Good luck.

Hey T.!
I have had my Mirena for about 2 months and I LOVE IT!!! I spotted for like 4 days, and I was done, BUT when it was time for my 1st period on it, I spotted lightly for like 2 weeks! it really wasn't bad though. It was slightly uncomfortable to have it inserted, BUT WELL WORTH IT!! I went right back to work and was fine, I highly recommend it. No pills to think about, and they say after the first year you'll have no period at all!! HECK YEAH! HEHE:)
Hope that helps!

i have the periguard. i think the mirena is the three or five year one i'm not too sure. the periguard is the one that you use for ten years. it has no hormones in it so if you are sensitive to the hormones like the pill then the ten year one would be better. i know if i take the pill it makes me into an emotional rollercoaster! LOL I love my IUD. It's very convienent and you don't have to think about it. Good luck!

I just had it done in April. I LOVE IT! I was using the NUVA RING and gained 40 lbs after I had lost it from my son. Once I had the Mirena inserted, I lost about 30 lbs without hardly dieting. I have had a period since it was inserted in late April-some days heavier than others. That is the only downfall, but my OB warned me of this side effect beforehand, so I was prepared. She said my period would be pretty continuous for 3-6 months, but minimal one to none after that period.
I really like not having to insert anything, buy anything monthly or fool with prescriptions, etc. I paid an office copay and that was it. If you are planning to have a baby within 3-5 yrs, she said it isn't worth it.

I just got mine last week. One method that last 5 years!! A little painful to have it put it and cramping for about 24 hours. The only side effects I have noticed so far are- back aches and some spotting. My OB assures me that it will pass soon. Good luck!

I would advise you to be cautious of the Mirena. There are a lot of nasty side effects. In fact, there is a class action law suit against the makers right now. I had a friend who went had serious anxiety attacks, major hair loss, depression and acne - Like reliving your teen years mulitplied by ten! I would just be very cautious and do your homework.

I have one and it is great. I did cramp a bit the first few days and spotted for about a month. But now 5 months later I only spot, so no more full blown periods.

Hey T., I had my IUD put in in June after having my daugther and so far I love it. I did spot the first day (havent again since then), I got mild cramps in the beginning when I was about to start(also has gone away), and I have a heavier period now. The good side is I now have regular, shorter periods. My OB gave me the option between a 5 year and 10 year. You do have to check it yourself periodically. Hope that this helps!!!! Good luck

T.,

I have the Mirena and so far so good. I got it put it shortly after my second daughter was born. I have had some hair loss (not enough to tell by just looking at me) and some cramping before my cycle. I can already tell that my cycles are going away and so is the cramping. I would do some research with your doctor and make sure that is ment for you. Good luck in your decision!!! God bless!

I have on e and LOVE it. Also - if you don't have a period where's it go? I am no expert, but I don't think it goes anywhere. You have a period because of the "cycle" inside your body. Birth control stops the "cycle" so there is nothing going on in there.

Love it! Love it! Love it! No pills, no shots, no condoms, NO PERIOD (at least in my case)no worries. I've had no problems with it at all. I've had it for about a year. It was a little painful to get placed but worth it. I will do it again after my next child.
