I want to get a big sister gift for an almost 4 year old girl. I would like it to not be a toy but relate to her new role in the family. Any ideas?

Go and buy her a little canvas apron that they sell at JoAnns fabric or the craft stores. Fill the pockets with the travel size baby lotion and maybe a small package of wipes..etc You could even put a small item just for her in a pocket.

Paint her name on it with fabric paints or hot glue some silk flowers on it with bows. Fluff it up and tell her it is her "Big Sister helper apron".

Stuffed dog, cat, or doll that comes with take care of accessories. Then she can take care of her doll/pet at the same time mom is taking care of baby.

R.,
I just recently had a little boy and wanted to get his big sister a gift too. I looked on Ebay and got her an American Girl Doll called a Bitty Baby. I was able to get her the little boy doll so that she could be helping him, while Mommy was helping baby brother. It worked well for us!

The cutest Big Sister Shirt is made by I'm Yours. You can email them at ____@____.com to find your nearest retailer.

There is a boutique in downtown Plano that carries I'm Yours but I am not sure of anyone in Lewisville.

I think that it should be a toy , cause you want her to know that her role is now a big sister but she still is and child and that you love her the same . A baby doll so she can care for your baby and you can care for her new brother or sister .

I'd had a lot of luck with the Dora big sister book. There's also a dvd with the same title. So if the young lady likes Dora, this is a good option. Congratulations on the new angel in your life.

When we had our second child, a friend bought my oldest a little photo purse for her to carry pictures of her new sister in (I put pictures of them together in it too). The outside says: I am the big sister! It is cute and she still sits and looks at the pictures (of course I need to put new pictures in it) but she likes looking at it. It has a handle like a little hand purse and the outside is fabric, but it opens and has sleeves for pictures.

How about:
A child-sized baby sling for her doll?
A book like Big Sister Dora?
A blank journal and/or photo album along with stickers so she can create her own "big sister baby book"?

Hi,
My daughter was 3 1/2 when we had our new baby, and I found her a great book.
It is called My New Baby and Me- by Dian Smith and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. You can find it at Amazon.com.
It is like a workbook that you fill-in the blanks and draw pictures.
A great parent/child activity.

It is fun and really interesting and exciting to see their perspective on the new baby.

Good luck!!

We just had another baby and we got our older daughter a shirt that said "I'm the big siser" and had her name on it. She thought it was really neat. We also got her a baby doll that was given to her by the new baby when she came to the hospital. This was a toy so you may not be interested in that, but I thought I'd share anyway.

I have seen some really good books at babies r us about becoming a big brother/sister. They completely go over from bringing new baby home, daily/nightly life with new baby, the role of being a big brother/sister, and helping mom and dad with new baby. I have gone through the book and think it is amazing at how they describe everything for the older child. I actually got the one for a big brother for a friends son at a shower i did for her and picked out thing from the book (bottles, bath stuff, rattles, etc...) and did a gift basket for the big brother to be. It was just for him to use when his little sister arrives next month to help mom and dad with her. I told him that those were his goodies to help welcome his little sister to the world. Granted he is 8, but that way he can start preparring for the new role he will soon have.

They also have some kid like scrap books for kids to do different activities on welcoming their sibling.

I have also seen a little soft play cube where you can put personal family pictures in the cube. I think it makes different sounds like crinkly noise, rattles, and squeaks. You can personalize the pictures and maybe she could pick out picture of her and to make some personal for her new sibling with just pictures of her in it.

My daughter was 5 when my second was born. We got a special doll. I recently gave a "big sister survival kit" to a friend's daughter. I included, pacifiers, a baby bouncer, special mom and my activities (movie passes), I also included a "cheerio" container and goldfish container.

When they are 4, they need something for them. The baby is getting so much attention!!

Hope that helps,
H.

I make jewelry and would love to make her a bracelet with her name and her new sibling's name with a charm that says sister...or maybe just a charm bracelet that says sister and has other charms with her interests, etc. You can email me at ____@____.com if you're interested! :)

Maybe you can get her some baby proofed books that she can "read" to her new baby sister. It would be fun and educational for both of them as they have some bonding time.
