Anyone Had NOVASURE?

I am considering having endometrial ablation known as Novasure. My OBGYN tells me it is a 90 second procedure which removes the lining of the uterus via an electrosurgical tool. The results are no more monthly periods. I am done having children. She says it is something I can have done for myself to not have the monthly inconveniences. I am 46 and have very normal periods, nothing heavy or out of the ordinary. Is there anyone out there that has had this procedure? I would love to here from you and about your experience.

I gotta say, I agree with Colleen H on this one. You have your monthly cycles for a reason. IF you were having issues with your period, like abnormally heavy bleeding, cramps, etc. like a couple of the other women wrote, then I would definitely consider this procedure. But to just stop your periods for no reason, that's not a good enough reason. I don't think anyway. As the old saying goes, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

So the procedure is another form of having ur tubes tide basically?Or is it just a surgery to take away the inconvience of a period? If it is just b/c of the periods...I wouldnt do it...just simply b/c its something my body does naturally for a reason. My mom had her tubes cut and burned and she told me that her body never felt the same after and that she regreted it.Not having anymore kids, but that she altered a part of her body.

I had it in April. Surgery was @7 am I was home by 10:30. You can expect some heavy cramping that day but by the next day I could have gone to work. I will be 47 this month and was having marathon periods lasting 30 days and then nothing for 60 days, but the periods were very heavy, thus far I have had a "period" if you want to call it that once since April and that was only spotting for 1-3 days. It was the best thing I ever did. Good Luck!

Hi J.,

I had the Novasure Ablation in March. Yes, it only takes 90 seconds for the actual procedure, but the whole thing takes about 2 hours from going back to the o/r to the recovery room.
I had severe periods with horrible cramps and very heavy bleeding. It did not get rid of my periods though, they are just a lot lighter, perhaps since yours aren't bad though you wouldn't have them anymore. What happens is it actually burns the lining and destroys the blood vessels so - no more blood. Undoubtably I must have tons of blood vessels.

Good Luck,
J.
