I was just wondering if anyone had a c-section at Kaiser Hospital in Santa Clara or San jose? I am deciding between Dr. Wesley Leong in San Jose for a c-section or Dr. Debora Sawyer from Santa Clara homestead hospital. Anyone had any experience w/ c-sections at these 2 kaiser hospitals or, better yet, with any of these 2 doctors? I need a c-section with my 2nd but not sure which doctor or hospital to choose. ANY advice would be great. THANK YOU SO MUCH!

I have had 2 c-sections at Kaiser Santa Clara - actually the old one -- with different doctors, all great. One was unplanned, the 2nd was planned. Both experiences were fine in terms of the procedure itself and the care afterwards. My advice is to ask for what you need and don't assume you will be offered things for comfort, especially for your spouse/partner. I think the new hospital is better for that.

I had a c-section at kaiser when it was on keily and had planned one at the new homestead one but ended up having vbac.
Kaiser was great with the care and the new homestead campus is great and the staff is very attentive. Ask your nurses and they get what you need :)

Yes ive had a C-section at Kaiser Santa Clara...not with the doc you mentioned, but i do have to say it was a really good experience. the nurses were great, the on call docs were really good, food was good and all the rooms were singles, which made it super private. The facility is brand new and has great Docs. Hope this helps!! Good luck.

I had a C sec at the Lawrence facility in Santa Clara about 6 months ago. It wasn't a planned c section I was hoping for a natural delivery. As I'm sure you know with Kaiser you can't have your OBGYN perform your delivery. It is always the Dr that is on "duty" when you go in that will deliver your baby. I'm not sure if its the same protocol for planned c sec? You may want to ask about that. I agree the care after the C-sec was good, nurses were VERY kind, attentive and the private rooms are priceless. My only complaint was that when I went in to L&D originally the care was VERY poor. there weren't any rooms available, I was put in an observation room for hours, and wasn't checked on. The nurses were stressed and rude as were the Dr's. However once I got a room, I was better taken care of (some 6 hours later). they did allow my doula to be with me with out much of a problem, although I did sense some hostility and sarcastic comments about my "natural" approach. I don't know who performed my C-sec, it was the Dr on duty, did a fine job but I was so out of it at that point I don't even know who it was! Overall a good experience, when I plan my second though I think I'll opt away from Kaiser all together for a more personal experience with the Dr for my 2nd.

Dr. Sawyer is fantastic and I recommend her highly. She's been my GYN for decades and seen me through both my pregnancies. When I had my first son in '04 she was chief of the department and approved my brining a doula - a first for StaClra Kaiser... since then she's risen farther up the ranks and still keeps her down to Earth relationship with her regular checkup gals like me :) Enjoy you newest family addition!!!

I had an unplanned C section at the Kaiser on Cottle (San Jose) in May of 2007. All the doctors were wonderful and they did a really great job. The scar is almost invisible and the nurses there took really good care of me/my husband and the baby. :) Good luck!!
