Anyone Familiar with Westside Pediatrics or Sunset Pediatrics?

I posted a month ago for references for Kaiser pediatricians- but after several horrible experiences with them, I have to switch to Plan B (Providence). My plan is limited as I am am a public employee- but from my internet research, Westside or SunsetPediatrics in SW Portland looks pretty good. Does anyone have experience with either? My saga continues as I search for the perfect office/doctor for my little one. Being in daycare, he gets sick alot & we need a good office that can accommodate us when he is sick. Thank you!

So What Happened?

Thank you everyone for all the suggestions on pediatricians! I visited both offices one afternoon since they are within several feet of each other. Both looked very nice & it was a tough choice, but I went with Sunset for now. It may have been a fluke, but the day I went in to visit, the waiting room was empty! I took that as a sign that they are either not too busy or just very organized. I am sure they are both great though. I booked a meet & greet appointment with Dr. Knapp next week. She is the newest to the practice. I was a bit hesitate because she is so young...but maybe that won't be so bad. She seemed to the only one accepting new patients anyhow. Wish us luck!

I don't know anything about either one of those, but I would recommend The Children's Clinic http://www.childrens-clinic.com/

My son goes to Westside Pediatrics and they are the best...they respond to our calls within reasonable time and there are many doctors to cover for each other.

Hi, both my kids have been seeing Dr. Margaret McCloskey at Sunset Pediatrics since birth. They are now ages 5 and 7. We just *L*O*V*E* her. We have also seen the other doctors in the practice. Dr. Erickson is great (and he's cute too!) and Dr. Knapp is the newest gal there. We just saw her about 2 weeks ago and she seems excellent too. The whole office staff is very helpful and patient. I've never had ANY trouble getting in for same day appts. if something urgent comes up. I highly recommend this group!!!

Hope this helps!

I used to go to westside Ped until my doctor there retired and then I switched to sunset with Dr. Snyder. I had three moms refer me to him & his practice - I am very pleased. You can email him / his staff questons, they're extending their office hours for both weekdays & saturdays. They have a nice waiting room for the kids & I can usually get in to see the doctors nearly immed. when one of my kids is sick. They'll be moving into a new office soon; it'll be IN st. Vincents, in the East Wing.

I have a 9 year old daughter and 11 year old son and we have been going to Westside Peds for 10 years! We see Dr. Purcell, but we have also seen most of the other doctors at one time or another. I love that practice. Dr. Purcell came recommended to me from my father, who was a doctor at St. V's at the time. I tell ya' they have seen us for loads of little and big things. Always amazing, fast and flexible.

We have used Dr. Eaton at Westside Pediatrics for over 6 years and she is terrific. We have friends who use her and others in the group and they are all very happy with their doctors. The nursing staff is wonderful. My kids love Nurse Sally - she always remembers them and relates on a personal level. We've used the nurse advise line countless times and they always call back promptly with good info.

Good luck!

Hey A.,
I have been taking my daughter Maddox to Dr. Kelvin Snyder at Sunset Pediatrics for three years. I have had nothing but positive experiences. They are a small clinic, which I love. The waiting room is never packed. They've always been on time. They've never messed up billing or insurance. But most importantly, Dr. Snyder sent us home from the hospital after Maddox's birth with contact numbers and the assurance that there was never a dumb question. I feel the clinic stays abreast of current information including attachment parenting, concerns about vaccines, etc. Good luck with your search. I definitely reccomend checking the clinic out. Oh, and I was able to schedule an appointment to meet with Dr. Snyder prior to giving birth to Maddox to see if the clinic would be a good fit. You might be able to arrange something similar. They also have female physicians if you would be more comfortable with that, but I have only dealt with Dr. Snyder, so I can't comment on them personally. Again, good luck. I hope the info helps.

I am very familiar with Westside. I have 2 little ones, ages 4 and 2. They are very accomodating all of the time especially when there is a sudden illness. I see Dr. Pena and she is great! My 4 y/o had a lot of medical issues when she was younger so I am very particular about docs as it is. There is also usually no wait when you check in to be seen....

We use Doctor Mccloskey at Sunset pediatrics. She is fabulous. A little eccentric, but, great with the kids and has on more than one occasion gone out of her way to help. Including staying late to see one of my guys. Trusts the mama senses and open to alternative options if this is what works for your family.

I work for Washington County and know several moms in my office rave about Westside. I took my son to Westside last year for flu shots (they were the only clinic with mercury free flu shots) and the nurses there were awesome. My son (2 yrs.) gets sick quite a bit too, but we live way out in Sherwood so Westside is just too far. It's worth a try.

Hi A.!

We go to Dr. Paul Thomas at Westside Pediatrics and LOVE him! He has 8 children of his own, is extremely knowledgeable and kind. All of the doctors we have seen at that clinic are excellent. They have weekend hours, always someone on-call to talk to, the waiting room divided into sick patients and well patients. The nurses are also fantastic! Go in for an interview if you'd like - that's how we decided on Dr. Thomas.

Dr. Snyder at Sunset Pediatrics is awesome! We have a 3.5 year old daughter and 1.5 year old son. He's been our doctor since the oldest was born. He is very good at following your lead as a parent. I find him fairly laid back and very easy to talk to. The advice staff is also very helpful. We are always able to get in right away with sick kids. My kids absolutely love him and that means a lot to me. If you have any further questions, feel free to message back. Good luck in your choice! ...mol

I have an 8-month old boy that I take to Dr. Purcell at Westside Pediatrics and I've been very impressed. The staff is fantastic, they have two locations (one at St. Vincent's and one in Tanasbourne). I've also seen Dr. Eaton and loved her. The nurses are great and they have entrances for sick children and well children. I haven't had to take my little one in for an illness yet, but from what I understand their sick child policy is pretty great. I wish you good luck in your search!

Hello,

We have both of our boys (3 and 19-months) visit with Kelvin Synder at Sunset Pediatrics. While our experience extends only out 19-months, we have been more than pleased with the care that both boys have received. They are not a large clinic and thus have been able to be very responsive when we have needed them to be so...such as a same day appt on Saturday morning. The hours are great and again the staff is very responsive and supportive. Kelvin is a very accessible Dr. and even gave us his home phone number to call if we needed his ASAP. He also is great at replying to e-mails!

He is a very calm and gentle Dr. that is not agressive with drugs but is willing to prescribe when they can help the child. I like his more conservative approach.

Again we are more than pleased and happy to reccomend them.

Good luck in your search-let me know if you have any other questions!

I take my 1.5 and 4 year olds to Sunset pediatrics and LOVE them. Our doctor is doctor Ericksen and he is very good with the kiddos, listens/ask for my thoughts/input and the staff is very prompt and good as well. They have evening and weekend hours which is a plus. They just hired a new doctor so I know they are taking new patients. Good luck in your search.

I have have gone to Sunset Peadiatrics for 2.5 years and have absolutely loved them. Dr. Snyder is our doctor and I can't say enough good about him. My boys (3 and 5) love him and anytime they have the slightest thing wrong they will say, "can I go see Dr. Snyder?" My experience with the rest of the staff and the other 2 doctors has been great and the office is open on Saturday. Hope this helps. I know how difficult it is to find a pediatrician.

We go to Sunset and I like it. I actually followed my pediatrician there from the Portland clinic. I love him. Dr Erickson. He is great with the kids and makes me feel like he has all the time in the world to answer my questions. I wanted to keep him, so that is why we go there. Also if you need in that day, I have had no problem if I call first thing in the morning. they also have different after hours and Saturday hours. I haven't had to use.
