Building a home and need flooring. Was looking online for companies like Lumber Liquidators and ran across BuildDirect which seems to be similar but I wanted to see what your experiences are with them. Their prices seem to be great so I'm wondering if it's too good to be true. Thank you!!

What can I do next?

Well, here's my personal experience with them. We just finished remodeling our house a couple of months ago. It was a major, high-end remodel, took months and months and cost a lot. I used BuildDirect for my wood flooring (strand woven bamboo) and 90% of my tile selections. I paid a fraction of what I would have paid a local retailer for similar quality products (granted, I live in a super expensive area and prices are ridiculous here). My tile installer said the tile was as good a quality as he'd ever seen (he has worked on multi-million dollar homes) and my flooring installer said as much about the bamboo. When people walk into my house now, the first thing they say is "WOW! These floors are beautiful! What are they?" and, when they go to use the bathroom, they then say "OMG, this is awesome tile! Where did you get it?" I'm not kidding. Quite a number of people have said these exact words or versions thereof.

I dealt with one person at BD, and she took care of all my needs from getting me free samples to helping me finalize my order to getting a better price on shipping. One of the tile shipments was messed up (due to the shipper being clueless about how to package and ship tile), and she arranged to have it replaced within a few days.

All in all, I couldn't have been happier with my BD experience. My husband is also happy, and he is the nit-pickiest, pain in the a$$ when it comes to stuff like this, all details have to be absolutely perfect or the whole experience is ruined. He was NOT happy about the boxes of broken tile, but he WAS happy about how BD took care of it.

So maybe I got lucky with my great experience with them, but based solely on that, I'd definitely recommend them.

You don't have a lot of responses, so I'll put my second-hand experience in. This is based on a discussion with a friend who used a similar company.

She said that product was fine and it was less expensive. However, she had trouble finding a contractor to install. She said that most contractors count on making some profit from the markup of the product. So when you ask them to put in a product that you already own, they have to increase their labor charges. And some contracts wouldn't install it at all, because they said they were not comfortable working with a product that they couldn't vouch for and they didn't want to be held responsible if it didn't turn out like everyone expected. Because of this, she ended up saving a lot less than she anticipated.

So, her advice was to only go with a company like this if you know in advance who will install it, and how much that contractor will charge you to install product from an outside company.

Since you are building a home, and assume you have Contractors, what does the Contractor say about them?
Contractors can get contractor discounts.
