Any Thoughts on Why My 19 Mnth Old Son Is Soo cranky...I Am at a Loss

I am at a loss. My son has been horribly cranky since Friday. One minute he is happy and laughing the next he is crying like crazy for no reason or a reason he wouldn't normally cry for:like he spit out a peace of candy corn and then wanted another and then cried for 20 minutes when I wouldn't give him any(my other son gave him a peace and I didn't want him to have it in the first place) or he wanted to play in the pantry and I shut the door and he cried for a long time in front of the closed door. He takes a decent nap and goes to bed ok. He wakes up in the middle of the night to sleep with me but that is normal. I play with him,my husband plays with him(when he is home from work),my two older boys play with him also so I don't think he wants attention. I had to leave a store this weekend because he was crying and freaking out over a balloon and wouldn't stop so I took him home and went back(when I left my husband wasn't home and the baby seemed to be in a good mood..) He did have his Hepatitis A vaccine on Thursday so I thought maybe all these mood swings were due to that but it's Monday and he is still a maniac and starting to get on my nerves(I have to keep reminding myself that he is not a brat he is a baby and something is going on with him)lol.Could this vaccine still be affecting him? The paper said 1-2 days it's been three. Vaccines never bothered him(or my other two) before so I have no clue. He also had a slight cough last week but isn't coughing anymore and never had any visible drainage. He isnt' crying when I lay him down and his cries aren't painful ones just sound kinda tired and heartbroken. Right now he is chasing his brother around the house laughing but in a minute or two he will be a broken man over something. What gives? Any suggestions? I am at a loss. Do I have a first class brat or could there be something I am missing? I hate when one of my kids throw me for a loop and make me feel like I have no clue what I am doing.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I should add I have tried Tylenol and Motrin and neither are really helping.

Thanks ladies. My other two boys were not terrible two's . One was terrible nothing the other was horrible 3,4,and 5(lol). I also forgot about his 2yr molars..not sure I want to stick my fnger to investigate I don't like to get bit...I will call doc in the morning and see what she says.

He was back to his old self on Tuesday! Eating and laughing and just being silly. He must not have felt good but with no outward signs. So glad for everyone in our house because it is rough when he is cranky..for everyone.

No my two older kids did not go through the terrible two's. My oldest was a complete Angel and basically still is,he is 9 and very rarely acts out and usually it's fighting with his brother. My middle didnt' through fits until he was over three but he kept at itoff and on until a few months ago so no I have never dealt with the terrible two's.

Any chance his two year molars will be popping through soon? Nothing gives my son the crankies like teething, but we usually don't see the teeth for a week or two (sometimes more :( ) after the crankiness starts

He is 19 months old. There is a major developmental leap from 19-24 months. Soon your baby will be talking, galloping, jumping. Meanwhile, they are cranky, clinging, and bratty ;-)

He might scream in the middle of the night too! All perfectly normal.

Molars are also getting ready to pop. So lots going on.

Is he teething? Possibly getting molars? That's the first thing that comes to my mind.

Yeah, fairly normal. At this age their brains really make a leap and they start to figure stuff out, so the "terrible 2s" is definitely starting. Just keep at it, it's a really hard time. I'd also make sure he's eating well and getting plenty of sleep just to ward off any further issue! ;) He could be coming down with something or getting ready for teeth, but it could just be life!

He could be teething, or he could be coming down with something, maybe even an ear infection. I would give the good doctor a call just to be safe.

My oldest son was such a sweet boy. Then around 18 months, a switch was flipped. He was moody and threw the worst tantrums I've ever seen. Not sure how your other 2 boys were around this age, but my son's "terrible twos" started around this age....and they're still going, but that is another story. Good luck!

Well its all most likely developmental. Coupled with the fact that kids this age are not verbally astute yet.
And your 2 older kids... did not go through the "Terrible Two's."

Kids. So many phases and moods.

One thing I try to remember is: even if it is driving me nuts... mega nuts... it is even harder for the child going through it themselves.
Then, it helps "me" to... manage it all, better. Because no matter how hard it is for me... it is harder for our child. Plus... they see that their Mommy does not 'understand' them whilst' going through these tweaks.

Hep A shots, don't cause all this.
Both my kids have had that.
It is not the shot.

And NO... your child is not a 'brat.'
