I'm so overwhelmed! Any particular brand you tried and liked? Thanks!

What can I do next?

Rainbow Light Prenatal Vitamins - These are vegetable based, so I never got sick taking them.

I'm taking the Nature Made brand. I can buy the big bottles at Costco.

I had problems keeping them down, so my OB said I could chew a couple of Flintstones. You should ask your doc about that option. I also took Omega 3 as someone else mentioned, but they now make Flintstones with that in them.

I didn't take any with either of my kids. My OB told me that it is very hard to be deficient in folic acid in the US as alot of our foods are already fortified with folic acid.

Just DON'T use national brands, specifically ones like Centrum. Centrum has a horrible rep amongst the vitamin makers, as they spend loads of $$ on advertising, then use the cheapest materials available in all of their vitamins. Vitamins are rated on how easily absorbed and digested they are by us humans. They barely meet the minimum standards in all testing. But most consumers don't look into vitamin testing requirements. Centrum's quality is so poor, it's almost unethical to call it a vitamin. About 99% of their product is not digested and peed right out.

I used the CVS brand. If you look at the ingredients, they are all pretty much the same.

I also used Rainbow Light Prenatals ( did not taste bad to me).
They had no side effects and no stomach upset. Used other brands prior that were horrible.
They are awesome!!!!
Don't forget to take a DHA (Omega 3 ) in addition to your pre-natal. Very important for the brain and eye development.
I took a vegetarian version, not the fish oil kind.

I used Nature Made. When I compared the % of nutrients in various brands I found that they are all really about the same.

I take Nature Made with DHA. It's inexpensive if you get it at Costco.

I don't remember what I took, but check out FairhavenHealth.com. I get my postnatals from there, and their products see you through the entire process.

Michael's (brand) has a big ugly pill that promotes fertility in women. It can also be used as a prenatal vitamin, at least to some extent. I did take that.

I really like the Rainbow Light Prenatals, but they're expensive and taste aweful. I switched about halfway through my pregnancy to Similac Prenatal, which comes with a DHA supplement. No problems with being sick on either one..but I take them at night before bed anyway. Good luck!

I'm not sure about prenatals (I took some prescribed by my doctor.) but my OBGYN recommended that I take an omega-3 supplement as well... Just make sure that it is not fish based (to avoid mercury).

My doctor gave me samples of several kinds of prenatal vitamins to see which one didn't make me nauseous. I can't remember which I took but maybe your doctor can help you decide. If not, my girlfriend takes the Whole Foods brand prenatal vitamins and she likes them. Hope this helps.
