Not sure if this was already posted but I LOVE the Trader Joe's Prenatal vitamins. They are easy to digest and give you energy, I used to take the regular women's vitamin and then switched to the prenatal once we started trying. I even kept taking them after my daughter was born since they are so great.

I had some gas/burping problems with some of the prenatals that I took also - recently I found some over the counter ones at WalMart - they are the One a Day Prenatals with the DHA - so it comes with two bottles - they are only $14.99 for the month, and I have not had the problems that I was having with the others. I hope that they work as well for you as they did for me! Good Luck!

The Target brand ones are actually pretty good. I had same issue as you and those seemed to be the best (and I tried quite a few). Hope they work out.

childrens chewables with iron and then seperately take folic acid. When I could not handle prenatals this is what our dr gave me.

I found that the time of day made a huge difference for me. If I took the prenatals at night I was much less uncomfortable. Try switching vitamins, but also when you take them.

Others have mentioned it but I wanted to let you know that the Trader Joes Prenatal is fantastic. I tried a bunch of other ones and they all caused me problems! Trader Joes saved the day! They will even take it back if it doesn't work out for you!

My friend was told by her OB that she could eat 2 bowls of Total cereal (since her she was super nauseous with everything) and that should provide you the vitamins you need. I don't know if this really is an alternative to taking prenatal vitamin pills or not but it's something to check out.

Try Costco's prenatal vitamins. They are great and less expensive. Though not pregnant, I will still take them just because they have everything a woman needs but with none of the after taste (at least for me).

I took an awesome vitamin that is all food and worked perfectly for me. It's not marketed as a prenatal but I showed my ob and she was super impressed. I purchased it from a nutrition expert in our area. They have 2 clinics in the Sacramento area. I don't remember the website but Flexibly Fit is the name of the clinic. I knew about it because I have a friend who works there part time. Her number is Susan ###-###-####
I had another friend totally anemic and couldn't take the vitamins the doc gave. I turned her on to these and she did fantastic. All her numbers came up in a matter of days.

I recommend Rainbow Light Prenatal which is food based and easy to digest. I've had many clients tell me this works much better than the ones their docs have prescribed.

Also, the American Academy of Pediatrics is recommending pregnant moms take about 5000iu of vitamin d3 per day since we are so deficient in this important vitamin and babies are born deficient.

I don't have the strongest of stomachs. I started out w/ some expensive prenatal pills which caused awful burps...fish oil I guess. Anyways, the Target brand worked out great and they are cheap. My OBGYN suggested them. She said they are just as great as other known brands. Good luck!

The iron is often what is tough on the digestive system. My OB recommended I take a prenatal w/out iron while being sure to get plenty of iron in my diet. That's what worked for me.

I had a really hard time with the iron content of some of the different types of prenatal vitamins. I requested that they prescribe a kind with lower iron, and my stomach felt a whole lot better after that. Also it seemed like the types that had higher B vitamins were better.

Switch to liquid vitamins you mix in water or juice. Much more absorbable than any pill you can take. Better for you and the baby. I have noticed that liquid vitamins in our family have really had an impact on the intelligence of my last child and 3 grandchildren and grand nephew and niece. Go to the vitamin/health food store and pick out the best one. Read the labels and compare. I get mine online and they are called Biometics Bio Fuel. My sister started us on liquid vitamins about 14 years ago and we all swear by them. Best wishes from an old Mom of 3 ages 27, 19, 11 and Grandmom of 3 ages 9,3 and almost 3 months. :) Yes the 11 year old and the nine year old are both Honor Roll students! :)

Hi, my OB said that the only difference between prenatal and regular vitamins is that the prenatals have the recommended amount of folic acid for pregnant women. She said that a regular multi-vitamin was fine, and if I wanted to add a folic acid tablet on top of it that would be equivalent. So, if you already have a multi that you take that doesn't bother your stomach, you're doing fine! In fact some of the regular multis already have the correct amount of folic acid. Hope this helps.

GNC used to carry prenatal vitamins that are 2 pills per day. I took 1 with breakfast and 1 with lunch and it made my tummy much happier.
This time around I'm taking Nature's Blend with very few problems I get them from the Kaiser phamacy really cheap - they have a candy coating which I think cuts down on the gross aftertaste.
