There is a very nice and new fountain area at Norfolk Botanical Gardens. The kids need aqua socks or crocs. Have fun!
Hey ladies,
I am a SAHM to two boys Jack who is 3 1/2 and Josh who is 17 months. I was hoping someone knew if there are any splash pools/fountains here. Like the one at the entrance to the Virginia Zoo. I cannot take them to swim in pools or the ocean by myself for fear that one would drown.
If you know of any please let me know, we don't have a yard and are looking for a way to get out of the house on the hot days without melting!
Thanks!
M.
We went out the Botanical Gardens yesterday and the boys had a wonderful time. We even made it out to the Oceanbreeze water park and the boys had a blast! Thanks for all of your help this is just what we were looking for!

The Botanical Gardens by the Norfolk Airport is WONDERFUL!!!! My 18 month old LOVES it and so do all of my friend's children who range from 16 months to 5yo. The children's area has several fountain areas and a more play areas and a few perfect hills for the kids to climb and roll on etc. Check it out...you won't be disappointed.
I also recommend going to the Bay beaches. Since it's a bay, there are little to no waves and the water is REALLY shallow, especially at low tide. There are particulare places where little sand bars form and so there are shallow pools the kids can splash in. It's our favorite place to go as it's really so safe. I live on the bay and would recommend the accesses at Dinwiddie Rd (adjacent to Don Julio's (there is parking on the street), at the public boat ramp, Aries on the Bay and Sandlewood Rd (the walkway to the beach is handicap accessable and easy to get to the beach.
I know you will love these areas.

This weekend might not be the best time for it due to the crowd downtown for harborfest, but the rebuilt Harbor Park has a new interactive fountain that you might enjoy.
Also, Ocean Breeze water park out at the Oceanfront has a kiddie area and isn't all that expensive to get into. :)
Hi M.,
I like to take my kids to Botanical Gardens in Norfolk. They have an awesome area for kids called the World of Wonders. It has a huge area with lots of floor sprinklers for the kids to runs around in. It's great for all age kids and they also have lots of other things to do there so the kids will love it. I always pack a lunch and come home with happy tired kids ready to nap, lol! Have fun!
Hi M.,
There is a neat splash zone, similar to the one at the zoo, at the Norfolk Botanical Gardens in the children's garden area.
Also, we LOVE the beaches at Ocean View in Norfolk, they are on the Chesapeake Bay so no big waves like at the ocean, also the life guards are VERY attentive. And sometimes there are nice big sand bars. Also, the slope into the water is very gentle and perfect for little people. I have an 8 year old and a 3 year old and we go all the time.
Take care, S.
busch gardens has two but you have to pay to get in. ocean breeze has a kiddie area thats about a foot deep. and there are like 4 lifegaurds walking around. but again you have to pay to get in. botanical gardens has one too but not sure if you have to pay...i do think you have to pay to park though.
