I have not been to Fossil Rim, however, I personally liked the Fort Worth Zoo better than the Dallas Zoo.
With two young children, I would opt to stay overnight if possible.
Hi Moms,
If you or someone you knew have been to Fossil Rim Wildlife Center please let me know if it's worth visiting. It's located in Glen Rose.
I have 1 yr old and a 4 yr old , I consider going there because my kiddos love animals.
we've been to Dallas Zoo before but we are a bit disappointed...not much to see!
Also, is overnight stay recommended? how about the gudied tour which cost around $50 ?
Thanks !
thanks for all the great reviews about fossil rim. We will definitely go there.

Fossil Rim will be so much better!! The scenery alone is beautiful!
You can enjoy the park in a day (but it'd be a long day in the car considering the drive back & forth & then sitting in the car during the ride through the park). If you have the time & money to stay overnight here is a website to help with your accomodations: http://www.glenrosetexas.net/accomodations.html
This is a nice hotel in the middle of town: http://www.dinosaurvalleyinn.com/
Hello!!
Fossil Rim is great!! We went there a couple years ago but I was still pregnant at the time. We haven't had a chance to get out there with our daughter yet but I just know she'll love it!! We did a thing out there that included dinner, drinks, and a guided tour. The guided tour is great, I just recommend that you do one that is in the daytime rather than in the evening. Once it gets dark, it's hard to see the animals. The tour guides have huge flash lights but I think it might get spooky for the little ones. And all of our tour guides ran out of batteries in their lights as well so we were eventually stuck with just seeing the darkness (but we were close to being done with the tour anyway). And with the tours, they provide you with buckets of the food (pellets) and stop to feed the animals (you'll fall in love with the giraffes!!). Anyway, I highly recommend it. We stayed at a B&B when we went, I'm not very familiar with other hotels to stay in out there. They have a cute little town square (little) with all kinds of antique shops. If you end up doing a night tour, you'll want to spend the night. It will be close to 9pm or later by the time you're done and you won't feel like driving back home another 2-3 hours after that.
Good luck and have a great time!! My team at work is doing team building out in Glen Rose next month, not sure if it involves Fossil Rim but I'm excited to go. We're staying at Rough Creek Resort and Lodge. http://www.roughcreek.com/

Great question! We have been talking about taking our boys, 3yr old & 2 yr old. If you have AAA, they have some decent discounts, especially if you go on a Wed. I believe it was 1/2 price that day.
I havent been in many years, but I went in my teens when we took my little sis. We had a great time! However we didnt stay overnight, just drove back to DFW. Not sure if they had the guided tour back then. I have been talking with my husband about taking our 4 yr old out there sometime, as they are so curious and learning at that age that it would probably be a great experience.
We took our daughter last year and she loved it (also loves animals) The animals will actually come up to your car and stick their heads in if you have food for them. She thought it was the greatest thing.. We didn't take a tour we went on our own and we weren't rushed at all. We will definately make the trip again. I think down that way is also a big dinosaur museum/park.
I went with my niece and nephew (they were about 3 and 1 at the time). My nephew was a bit young for it, but my niece loved it. I was afraid she might be scared of the animals, especially when the giraffes actually put their heads in the car with us (!), but she really enjoyed it and talked about it for a good year after.
We did take a guided tour, and I would recommend it. I wouldn't spend the night - accommodations don't look great, and I don't think it's necessary. But the guided tour was nice, because you learned a lot about the animals, got a lot of food to feed them, and the open car was so nice. It made it easy to see all of the animals, and the animals could stick their heads in if they wanted. Since the fee to drive yourself is fairly high, too, the few extra bucks for the tour was well worth it. Plus, I've heard several stories of animals scratching the sides of people's cars, so I'd rather not risk an animal ruining my car - I'll take their truck!
It was really a neat experience, though, and I look forward to taking my daughter someday.
WE just went over the Easter weekend and both my kids really enjoyed it (6 and 1). Of course, the 6 year old really will remember more. We didn't get the guided tour, but make sure you buy some food for the animals. They will come up to the car. It is really wild!!! I took my 1 year old out of her car seat and held her in my lap so she could see better. We did the trip in a day. It didn't seem too bad -- but my kids are GREAT in the car. We stopped at DQ on the way there and Sonic on the way home and let them run around a bit. It was FUN!
Also, the Ft Worth zoo is really great. So, that would be another great trip for you. It is MUCH better than the Dallas zoo.
Great. That is out staple day trip to get out of the house. Make time for Dinosaur Valley as well while you are there. I would make a day trip of it. Doesn't take that long and isn't far at all.
We love this place! We go yearly at least 2 times since my son was 3. My daughter is oe and also loves it.
