S.J.
I am part of the Belleville/Ypsi Stay-at-home moms group. We meet once a week for the kids to play and the moms to talk. We met at Jungle Java the other day and had a great time. I do believe you can look up playgroups on the web.
I've been looking for Playgroups in the Ypsilanti/Ann Arbor Area and cannot find a single one that is not SPECIFIC (Black mothers only, SAHM only, etc.)
Does anyone know of any?

My 18 month old just started going to a playgroup at the Lamaze Center in Ann Arbor.

There is a fee, but I really reccomend it. The groups consist of up to 9 toddlers within 6 months of your baby's age and an instructor who leads you in age specific activities. You may be able to get into the last couple sessions of a winter group, and spring groups will start in April.
My daughter loves it. The moms in my group are very friendly (some have been going there since their kids were newborns) and we have set up additional play dates outside the center.
Hi, you should check out the First Steps Program in Ann Arbor.
I'm not certain there is an Yspi one still. You can find it through the Rec and Ed department.
There are all kinds of groups and age specific (or not) groups.
We really enjoyed them.
Good Luck!!!
You can also try www.myurbantoddler.com in Saline and also the Milan Area Schools has an excellent First Steps Program. Milan you pay one fee per year whereas Ann Arbor's I am told you pay for each class or something like that.
