I am interested in buying the Canon Powershot SD 1000 ELPH, but I can't find too many reviews on this model. I really like the size, and I have heard good things about Canons in general. I would love to hear your opinions!

What can I do next?

We just bought this version of the Canon Powershot and are, so far, very pleased. We had the A95 before and the things I miss having on the SD1000 are (1) the ability to grip the camera -- the SD1000 is 'flat' and a little harder to hold onto, (2) the flip around screen -- it was nice having that extra protection and (3) the ease of using alkaline or nickel metal hydride batteries -- the SD1000 uses a lithium ion battery (but you can easily buy 2 and always have a backup).

My husband loves the small size because he can put the camera in his pocket. The face detection feature is great! The picture quality is great. I really like the different choices in 'types' of pics you can take -- B&W, Color Swap, Color Accent, etc. The ability to edit the pictures on the camera is another plus that I like (for example, if the red-eye reduction doesn't work, you can manually do it on the camera after the picture has been taken). The big technical difference with this version (vs the A series) is that there are no manual controls for exposure. For us, that was okay. We wouldn't have the first clue how use the manual exposure anyway.

That's all I can think of right now but here's a good website for electronic reviews including the SD1000: http://reviews.cnet.com/Canon_PowerShot_SD1000_silver/450...

I don't know that particular one but there is a few reviews for that canon at the www.dpreview.com (on that web side go to "camreas,"then go to Canon, and then there is picture with that camera and 16 reviews). I got that webside from a guy that works at Wolf Camera when I bought my big Nikon. It is a web side for digital photography. Maybe you find something you like and even more.... Hope it helps. Lilla

My husband is a perfectionist and only buys the best- which isn't always the most expensive. He researched this specific camera for about a month or two. He says it's the best! I looked some myself and it is pretty amazing and cute.

Funny, I just sent an email to my dad telling him to get this one. He has an Olympus that he has to replace the batteries (2 AA) pretty much every time they want to use it at an event. It sucks!!

We have the SD550 and I absolutely LOVE it. The battery is the kind you charge in an outlet, and we bought a memory card for it (not expensive) that holds more than what comes with the camera. It has great features (big screen, videos) and super easy to use.

Hi, I have a Canon Powershot A500 digital camera, and we love it. The pictures are absolutely awesome, and we love the video camera feature. The only negatives are the lag in time between when you push the button and when the picture is actually taken, and also the memory card that came with it only allows you to take about 20 pictures before it's full. That's easily fixed, though, by buying a new card with more memory. Based on our experience with that camera, we will probably always buy Canon from now on. So, while I don't have any info on the specific model you are looking at, I hope my testimony helps you in some way!
