Easy-to-use, Affordable, Great Digital Camera

I just bought a Nikon Coolpix S630 and love it. I have an 18 month old who like your son doesn't like to sit still for long. It has the continuous pic option that takes 18 pics at once. This way you can delete the bad ones and keep the good ones. The shot speed is great. An SLR camera has a better speed, but you are also carrying around a bigger camera and a higher price tag. I looked around for months before I purchased this one.

If you buy it at a retail store, it will cost around $275 without tax. I bought it at Amazon.com for $224. They are always offering free shipping or you can look online for a free shipping code.

I personally would suggest any of the sony cybershot line. They are all great cameras.
The kodak easy share takes great photos and is fairly user friendly but it has been my experience that they go through batteries very quickly. I myself prefer to have the rechargeable battery.

I recently purchased a Kodak Easyshare Z950. This model was just released in July and when I purchased it in late August, the only place I could find it was on the internet. It is a 12mp with a 10x optical zoom. It has a lot of the standard features found on digital point and shoots. The best thing about it though is the capture speed. You can't do better without going to a DSLR. If I remember correctly, in either 2007 or 2008, the Kodak cameras were rated as having the fastest capture speed at 0.3 seconds.

So far I really love this camera. It takes great photos, is easy to use, and has been everything that I was looking for.

I'm not sure what you are looking to spend but if you have the money I LOVE my Nikon d40x. An awesome camera that takes AMAZING pictures of everything from flower, our pet geckos, nature shots to my very active 8year old running and jumping into a pile of leaves. And it is simple enough that my very technology impaired mother and mother in law can use it with no problems in 'point and shoot' mode.

I have the Kodak V1253, it is also 12mp, with High Definition video. It has a quick speed and takes great pictures "most" of the time, but it does seem to have a flaw, sometimes it takes FOREVER to process a pic you have taken, and you actually have to turn it off, then back on to use it again. I really LOVE the camera, but this is an ongoing problem and is probably why they have a new 12mp that is similar so I would look into that one. I have an old Kodak as well and they do have GREAT battery life, I have taken literally thousands of pics on both. I tried the Nikon 10mp before buying this one and I hated it, the pics were not true to color and the speed was awful.

I love my Canon Powershot SD1200 elph. On top of all the myriad of features, its pocket-size and curved edges make it easy to stick into even my jeans pocket. It has 17 shooting modes (like pet&kids, sunset, nighttime, portrait, scenery, fireworks, ISO3200 to name just a few) and you can manually choose the settings too if you like. Another wonderful feature is video recording which records for as long as your memory card allows. That's great for catching a lot of moments you wouldn't otherwise have caught ( I keep my camera in my purse all the time). Image stabilization, face recognition are great for kids & pets too. I have its predecessor (SD1000) too which led us to buy this one. The SD1000 is still in great shape after all these years of rough use. Battery life is long and durable (the old SD1000's battery is still holding great charge). Can't say enough great things about this camera.
