Any Ideas on Treating a Child Who Has the Flu?

My two year old is just getting over the flu and my 10 month old daughter awoke vomiting last night. I was just curious if anyone had any helpful hints to get a little one through this tough thing. I'm not asking for medical advice, just curious on what other mom's may have done to comfort their child. It's just breaking my heart. :(

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for everyones advice! My daughter who is ten months old, my two year old son and my husband all had the flu at the same time. Talk about going nuts...lol! My daughter got so dehydrated from vomiting and diahrea that we had to take her to the ER and they placed her on an IV drip for a few hours. :( It was a hard ordeal to go through, but it helped her so much and now I'm happy report that everyone is back to their normal selves. Thanks again for all your advice and well wishes, D....

it sound silly but you can time the time inbetween pukes so you can prepare them for the next round!! it varies around 35 -45 min for my 2 year old! my older kids are about 45 min to an hour in between pukes! i also use a bucket so i can come to them!! good luck!

We always loved the bath tub in times like this. My kids love the water like nothing else so they can play in the warm water which always feels good, and if they happen to get sick..... well easy clean up, just change the water. No laundy and it's somethign realativly quite they can just sit and do.

Hi,

It is so hard to see your child sick. Just being there for her on her terms, because they can get cranky at times and just want to be left alone. Perhaps rubbing her back, or belly lightly or just holding her. My son, who is 3, gets upset when he vomits, I just reassure him, tell him it's okay and that it will make him feel better, that sort of thing and I rock him in my arms.

I hope that she gets better soon.

I remember when I was little the best thing when I was sick was for my mom to put a cool washcloth on my fore head and stroke my back. Singing songs and stories are good too. All they want is for you to be close to them and take care of them.
Besides that just keep them hydrated with water and pedialyte popsicles.

My poor little baby had the nasty flu at 5 mos. It lasted 7 days, on the 5th day my doctor suggested feeding him only pedialite for the next 24 hours. I gave him only pedialite for a day and a half and the flu was gone. You may want to try it.
