Hi moms! There will be a few different people in and out of my house on Halloween night. They'll be over to trick or treat around our neighborhood. I will be busy trying to get my 2 year old ready, handing out candy and watching our new puppy. I would really appreciate any suggestions for appetizers/snack food that I can have setting out for everyone. Something substantial enough to take the place of dinner, but easy enough to grab and munch on here and there. Thanks ladies for any ideas!!

What can I do next?

These won't cut it for dinner items persay but very easy to make and you could even make them a day or two ahead of time!
Rice Crispy Treats!
Now if you really want to wow them and do make them ahead of time, add a couple drops of red and yellow food coloring to make orange as you are melting the marshmellows, then when done butter your hands(after being well washed that is) and form the treats into little balls rather than mushing them into a pan! Then, I cut green gummy worms to use as a little stem on each to make little pumpkin treats!

Cheese and crackers is a good one too! Quick & Easy!

I had to share because it was so fun/cute.
Have fun this weekend!!!

I don't have any advice, but reading your "a little about me" was like reading about ME! I'm 45, on the path to divorcee status, and my rambunctious 2-year-old is a girl. But I, too, have a puppy and a book-loving, hyper, happy little one!

Good Morning J., I didn't read the others so here is my ideas. I fix a big pot of chili and the kids ( mine of course) can grab some quick before taking off. Hot dogs for gr kids.
Also you could get maybe 4 or 5 of Subway's $5.00 subs cut them in 1/4 and you have a ready to run snack. They are already cut in 1/2 so cut each half again.

Have a great time. I sit outside every Halloween with our chiminea glowing, tiki torches lit, on a patio bench with quilts over it. Dressed as a hobo or cowgirl.. It's a blast and I have every kid that comes tell me a joke and sing a song. I have been doing this for the past 5 or so yrs the kids love it. I take pictures also with parents permission.
Even the bigger kids love coming, I have had skate boarders, cheerleaders etc show me their act...lol
God Bless and have a great time

One of my favorite finger foods is tortilla rolls, you can make a sourcream and salsa one, or there are creamcheese varities too.. You just make your "dip" and spread it on the tortilla and roll it then cut it into spirals.
Also my daughter loves salami rolls with creamcheese.

Have a great day!

we've been having Halloween parties for 20+ years now! With our older son, a pot of chili was our standard. Families wandered in/out, either taking foam coffee cups of chili with them...or stopping to visit for awhile. Other families provided the munchies, including sausage/cheese trays, chips, toppings, etc. We also all pitched in on the sweets, but learned they were mainly eaten by the adults 'cuz the kids were so excited over all of the candy!

For our younger son, the focus has been more on him having his "own" party. He's 13, & this year's menu includes the tortilla rolls already mentioned - but we serve ours setup on a tray so it looks like a coiled snake- using food dye to paint on the markings! Chips, cheese dip, & salsa...labeled as bone chips with blood & pus. (Yuck, but the kids love it.) The girls have requested dead fish again -sardines of all things...double yuck- but it works great for dares. Pus-filled roaches....pineapple cream cheese stuffed dates. We're also serving a Halloween Chex mix - check out their website, a decorated/frosted brownie, & electric punch - neon green HiC mixed with ginger ale. I usually use my big punch bowl decorated with cobwebs & spiders, with lights around the base. Oh, & I'm also serving gummy worm popcorn balls - made just like RiceKrisy treats, but just substituting popcorn. All of this can be made well ahead of time, making the evening go so much easier. And most importantly, other than the tortilla snake....nothing requires extended chilling! Have fun...
