B..
My friend has an autistic son (age 3.5) and he uses teething bling from smart mom jewelry. I too used one for my son, when he was little and teething. Mine does not have sensory issues or anything. I liked that they were so easy to clean.
My son's OT recommended getting him a chewy tube to stop him from biting his lips since they are so dry and cracking. But, I looked online and got overwhelmed...so I thought I would ask you guys and gals. Do you have any recommendations on which ones to try first? which shape or texture? What about the ones that hang on a string around the neck? I really appreciate you expertise on this! TIA

My grandson also has chewing issues and his OT also recommended buying stuff from specialty stores. You can buy any sort of toy or anything else that he can chew. There is no need to buy the pricey special tube.
I bought a brush that was exactly like a special brush that cost $25 on line and cost $5 from the grocery store. It was a mushroom cleaning brush with plastic bristles. The OT said that did look the same but hesitated authorizing its use. OTs seem to only be willing to approve of something that is labeled such and such.
The idea is to give him something to chew. Something that is soft rubber and will hold up to chewing. A baby teething toy would work tho your son may be embarrassed to chew that. Perhaps you can modify one so that it's less obvious what it is.
My grandson refused to chew on anything, even the specialty ones that the OT had him try.
Also, if you do decide to buy one online, what works for one child won't necessarily work for another. That is one reason I'd try different textures from the toy store.
Here's the web site for teething bling. Looks like a good one to try, if they are soft enough to acutally chew. I saw one that said it was silicone. http://www.amazon.com/s/?ie=UTF8&keywords=teething+bl...
My only concern about something being around the kids neck is that if they fall the strap can get hooked and they can choke to death. It would be better if it were on a strap that fastened to the front of the shirt. They're even very easy to make. The parts are at Hobby Lobby in the fabrics department on the wall with the notions.

One of my kids' daycares had a chewy tube for a biter (it was THAT bad). They did not put it around his neck. They pinned it on his shirt. I'd consider that - I would NOT want to take a chance of him getting strangled.
