Ants?

My townhouse apt has been invaded by ants. We've been living here for a year and a half and I love it. We've never had a problem with pests, no ants, no roaches, nothing. Then about a month ago I started noticing these itty bitty reddish ants. They don't bite at all, but they are EVERYWHERE. In the bathroom, in the bedroom, in the kitchen and I even find some crawling across me when I sit on the couch!!! (ew!)

I'm OCD over my cleaning rituals. There is never any food left out for any period of time and it is stored in tight containers. Food is eaten at the table, which is cleaned at every meal, as are all counters that its prepped on. Floors are swept and mopped once a day. At night before I go to bed, I like to spray a bleach mix on the kitchen counters. In the bathroom theres not any toothpaste on the counters, no soaps left open and no trash outside of a closed trash can.

I don't get it. What are these ants after?! I'm almost 5 months pregnant now and I have two other children to worry about and I hate ants and I'm worried that a pest control service might use something poisonous. I need advice on how to get rid of these ridiculous ants.

And just think... if I can't get rid of these things now... I'm going to have a newborn in December and wouldn't they go after the "milk" smell in his mouth? I'm having nitemares over it.

What can I do next?

There is always the old method of putting out cornmeal. The ants eat it and they cannot digest it and it expands and kills them. The good news with this is that it is non-toxic and will not harm children or animals.

Sugar Ants, and I've had those before and they are impossible to get rid of by yourself. They find every crumb.I trust my pest control company. They have done a great job. NO odor is left behind, and I don't have to keep my pets or kids away after he sprays because it's not harmful to us. I would ask them about the chemicals. He has explained to me doing the green method, versus using chemicals. And the problem is the green is not as useful. But there is a right and a wrong way to spray a home, and using a true professional is where it counts. Good family owned business, polite and consistently do a great job. I saw something on the news the other day about a new breed of ant that sounds like what you are describing. I can't remember what channel it was, but more than likely it was channel 5 as that's usually the news we watch at night. You can probably do a search on nbc5i.com for "ants" and see if anything comes up. Anyway, what I remember about the story was that they recommend you get professional treatment right away as they are very pervasive. I'm sorry I can't be of more help. I hope you can get rid of them soon!

Congratulations on your new little bundle of joy to be!

Blessings,
N.

We had ants and could not get rid of them without the help of Service Pro. We bought the ant baits from the store and they did nothing. Service Pro doesn't treat the baseboards in the house like regular services do, they go to the water source under the sinks etc and get them as they come in from outside. So then you don't have to worry about being around the poison. They are a great company and I'm glad we found them. They go above and beyond for pest control! The ants were gone in no time!
Here is the number if you would like to call them:

Good luck!
