Amanda Knox

Is anyone else outraged by the verdict? There is zero evidence of her at the crime scene and TONS of evidence of Rudy Guede. There really is no doubt she had anything at all to do with this tragedy. I cannot believe the nightmare she and her family are still living!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

They do know who killed her. It was Rudy Guede. There is no doubt about that, as his fingerprints and DNA were found all over the Meredith's bedroom and inside her. He is the murderer.

I do feel for Meredith's family. I truly do. However, justice for Meredith is not the same thing as putting innocent people through hell.

I have not heard that the US agrees with the Italian court that this is not double jeopardy. I have actually heard repeatedly that the US does see this as double jeopardy. I have also heard that in the previous trial they were declared "Innocent," not "Not Guilty" but "Innocent." Apparently in the Italian justice system "Innocent" is a possible verdict.

I totally agree with everything you're saying!! I think Italy was just hellbent on convicting her no matter what the evidence showed. What a never-ending nightmare :(

This is why it is great to be an American. I happen to be of Italian heritage, but the Italian government is quite corrupt and their judicial system is absolutely crazy. Amanda Knox will never go back there. She won't be extradited to Italy because in our country, you can't be tried for the same crime twice and our government will probably never hand her over. Although I have been reading some articles that our country may be obligated to hear the extradition request and she could appeal it if it went through. I'm sure it would be tied up in appeals not just in the Italian court, but in the US too (if there is an extradition trial) and it goes on and on.

I'm sure they had this trial to appease all the Italian people who were mad that she was found innocent the first time. Let them waste their tax money. I'm glad I don't live there...unfortunately, I probably won't visit either.
I do feel bad for her family. I had a relative who also went to school in that part of Italy. Thank god it wasn't her. Sad all the way around.

I missed it. Did she get convicted again? Terrible. I don't understand why Meredith's family is so convinced that she was involved. The prosecution's arguments have never made sense. They already have their murderer.

I understand there is still an appeals process to go through and I don't know what the U.S.'s extradition agreement is with Italy but it would be a crime to send her back there.

The Italian political and justice systems are very corrupt and always have been. I feel very sorry for Amanda Knox, given the total lack of evidence against her. Especially since the actual murderer has been brought to justice already - AND he is only serving 16 years!

I don't know what to think about her case, but it does seem like it's tough for her to get a fair "shake" in Italy. It's become politicized and larger than just the facts of what happened in that particular crime. It's taken on international posture which seems unfair. That being said, I feel for the victim's family too.

It's a great reminder to young people who live abroad (for a semester or season of their lives) to be very careful when they are in another country subject to that country's laws.

Having once been a foreign exchange student and being from Seattle, I totally get riled up about this case. I read a fascinating true story about a series of murders in Italy over several decades. At one point the Italian prosecutors implicated the journalists who were never even in the country! At the end of the book the author devotes an entire section to Amanda's case and reveals exactly what he believes happened and it has nothing to do with her. I've followed the case to some extent and am so happy for her that she is back in the States. I sincerely hope that she remains free. Their system is an absolute travesty!

I would be if there was any chance they would extradite her. But she will never go to Italy. Clearly their justice system is terrible. Thats what I take away from this.

On the news this morning, they said there was no case of double jeopardy because the aquittal was never approved by the highest courts in Italy...weird, but I guess even through our legal system they were able to try her again.

On that note, if America does ship her out, then I hope people finally wake up. I don't believe she did it.

I live in Seattle, and hear it from everywhere. She was found guilty, then not guilty, now guilty again.

Honestly, at this point, I don't give a damn about any of it anymore. I DON'T think she did it, I'm just sick of all the coverage about her.

I don't really care one way or the other.
Her 15 minutes of fame was up roughly 5 years ago.
She can spend a fortune on lawyers to fight (that's a sentence in itself right there - I don't want to hear about any fund raisers to help pay her legal team) and she may or may not eventually win or she can stay in the US forever.
It's a big country - a lot of people live their entire lives without ever leaving it.
