Why is that skipping the holiday? You get to have as low-key a celebration as you want, and all you're skipping is the drama :)
I enjoy getting together with family for the "big" holidays, but sometimes it just doesn't work out, or I don't want to make it work out. So we just have a day at home to relax, play games, watch videos, read, whatever. I enjoy cooking big holiday dinners, so we still have a "feast", but my kids wouldn't mind if we did chicken nuggets, baby carrots, applesauce, and rolls.
My husband is a pilot and has had to work most holidays for the past 5 years, so we just make do with what we got! However, I'm so glad that this year he will be home (lands just in time for dinner!) and his family is visiting.
Hope you enjoy your private, invitation only holiday party (or non-party!) :)
