Am I Doing It Wrong?

I feed my 11 month old daughter food that is rated for her age (for lack of a better word) but she fusses at me to feed her more when she still has a mouth full. I have to give her snacks 1 piece at a time because of this. She also started a thing last week where she tries to swallow too big of a piece at once, (like a whole yogurt bite, wich dissolve fairly quickly) and it gets stuck in her food pipe, then she pukes up this mucousy stuff as her body's reaction to get it out. Is it just a phase? Or am I doing something wrong?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for all of the wonderful advice. And I will be certain to talk to her doc about it at her next check up.

she's just hungry and impatient! my daughter was like that and I would have to tell her to chew and swallow before I gave her another bite. I would count to ten out loud while she was chewing and then say swallow. Helps her to keep chewing and slow down and helps her learn to count too ;)

I think it's just a phase. I don't think it's a food allergy, as one person suggested, because she's only throwing up from gagging. One of my sons went through this and outgrew it. You'll just have to keep giving her things one piece at a time for a while. If she's having trouble with the yogurt bites, hold off for a few weeks and try again. When you're feeding her, and she fusses for more before she's swallowed, try telling her to swallow first. She may not understand at first, but I think she'll figure it out eventually. Just be patient, it'll pass :)

My daughter did this for a really long time. She was really hungry, and the food just wasn't coming fast enough for her. It is definitely frustrating, but it will pass. Just keep giving her a bite at a time, and tell her to chew and swallow, as another mom suggested. She'll get the picture after a while. Good luck! =)

You are not doing anything wrong. Every baby is different. Sometimes the stages are not right for your baby.
Have you tried just giving her finger food and avoiding the pureed food. There is really no reason to give purees any more at that age. Babies gag all the time while learning to eat it is not the same as choking. I bet she will grow out of it pretty quick. Check this out is might work for her...
