I'm looking for a pediatrician who will support an alternative vaccination schedule for my 2 month old son. I'd like a doctor who is affiliated with Northwestern or Children's hospital with an office in the city of Chicago (not the suburbs). I've read over other questions on this topic and have seen a lot of advice about using Homefirst. I don't know much about Homefirst, but would like the option of taking him to a regular hospital should the need arise.

It's very hard to find a pediatrician that doesnt follow the CDC reccommendations for vaccination, however, our pediatrician, Dr. Cari Tarnowski of Child and Adolescent Health (Near Clark & Division) has been wonderful about supporting our schedule. This office already delays the MMR to the 18 month appt, and obviously you can decline or delay however you choose. What I LOVE about Dr. Tarnowski, is she explains everything but not in a condescending way. She follows the CDC, but does not make you feel bad for choosing your own path for your family. Oh, and did I mention she is AWESOME with kids! She is so sweet and caring, and genuinely seems interested in the well being of both the child and the parents!

Good luck!

Google Dr. Fred Ettner at St Francis (and I had him see my baby at Northwestern/Northshore)

Dr Minkus is also great; my friends go to him.

Dr. Minkus at Evanston (which I think is now called Northshore University Hospital) is also on staff at Children's Memorial and is very supportive of whatever the parent's wishes are regarding alternative vax, including no vax, too. He is a warm, gentle, kind doctor and I could not imagine taking my kids to anyone else.

Our pediatrician, Dr. Dawn Li at the Northwestern Children's Practice, lets us do an alternative schedule. She's really great--listens to all of our concerns, answers all of our silly questions and never makes us feel like dumb, overly-protective new parents. Which we are! :)
