So What Happened?

Well, it sounds like I'm just going to have to do it the ld fashioned way and try to eat better and exercise more.I'm just not good at choosing or mixing foods that are good for me and being able to supply the house full of healthy food.Green beans in a can is my version of a healthy side since Im not much of a cooker,or have the time since I watch my 2 kids who are usually in the kitchen with me while Im cooking.I know fresh things are good but we let food go bad ALOT so I couldnt see myself buy healthy bunched of foods like cabbage or carrots b/c they'll go bad before I get back around to cooking it again before it goes bad.We eat alot of chicken, fried and baked, corn, rice, spagetti and salmon patties, things like that.I never considered any of those things un healthy,so what am I doing wrong and what's a simple way, besides buying fresh food in bulk.I buy fresh fruits b/c I love things like that but there' gotta be healthy stuff in the frozen food isle lol.And thanks Carol, but while reading your post I thought I was back in the mall listening to that women who tried selling me nail care stuff.I dont like having to take anything daily but i Was going to try the alli but it sounds like a waste of money. And as for weight watchers...ive never been but if its anything like phc that just weighs u in each week and then ask u what u ate and if ur drinking water...then takes ur money and sends u home...i can do that for free at home.I either need a nutrionist or i need to make sure i sweat from morning till night and burn off more caloories.Ifind making what i eat a chore makes me burn out to quick.i need to work it into my daily life with little effort.

I've lost 50 pounds so far. this is how I did it. I took all our favorite meals and made them healthier; ground turkey instead of ground beef, fat-free or veggie cheese, limited amounts of light margarine, and whole wheat everything. I also made sure to eat less and exercise (cardio and weights). Eat 5 small meals a day, rather than 3 large ones. Also, stay away from artificial sweetners. They make you hungry and don't help you lose weight. It's better to have a sugary treat once in a while than a diet one. Stay away from most "diet foods" they usually contain HFCS which is really bad for you. Don't do low-carb. Purchase a steamer and make yourself use it everyday with fresh veggies (or frozen). Drink lots of water. I drink 80 ounces a day. Don't drink anything besides water. Good luck. It's not easy to get started, but once you do the pounds will come of quickly. Just keep this in mind; you can eat that yummy piece of chocolate cake and it will taste good, or you can go to bed feeling proud you didn't eat it and weigh a little bit less on the scale tomorrow :)

I myself have not, but my step dad was on the precription version of it. I'm not sure of the strength difference between the two but he hated that stuff!! He would eat a hot dog and not even 5 mins later he would be running to the bath room almost holding a finger over his butt! For him it didn't seem to matter how heatlthy or unhealthy he ate while on it either, he would be in the bath room 10 mins or less and most of the time it was explosive!! Sorry if this is too much info or too graphic but only managed to stay on the stuff for a month and stopped on his own cause he couldn't take going to the bathroom like that anymore.

I myself tried SlimQuick and it didn't do a dang thing but keep me up at night!!! All I wanted to do was have something help me loose the last pounds of baby weight that I was having a hard time with.

Good luck to you!

**** EDIT******* Weight Watchers is great but you really have to commit to the plan which is, basically, a lifestyle change.

If you really want a more healthy way to live and eat without the pills or the meetings, go to http://www.diabetes.org/home.jsp and look at their information and recipes. You absolutely DO NOT have to be a diabetic to enjoy a "diabetic" diet (which is not a diet but a healthier eating plan created by dieticians and nutritionists).

yes, I've tried it. Personally, I like it but it's really something not every one should do. It definitely blocks the fat as the fat "passes" right through your system (if you get my meaning). It really takes some getting used to.

Now, the thing I like about it is that it actually helps control acid reflux disease. I don't get nearly as many heartburns as I did before. And my intestinal tract doesn't hurt so much. I also found it helps a great deal to control lactose intolerance. At least it did in me, of course it can be different in someone else.

CONS: You ABSOLUTELY have to take vitamins when you're on this stuff because it blocks a lot of vitamins going in your system. I found myself weak a lot the first week because I wasn't taking my vita's like I should have. When I'm on the Alli, I take 2 a day (not 3 like the bottle says) and 2 vitamins but not at the same time. Give the Alli time to let the fat pass through then take a vitamin. One in the morning. One at night. But take the Alli with meals so it can attach the fat blockers to the fat.

Don't take the Alli with Olive oil based meals. Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO) is wonderful for your system and has the good fats in it to give you a healthy body. Take the Alli only if you're going to eat out at fast food restaurants or something.

Make absolutely sure you're eating right when you're on this product because if you have an unhealthy diet to begin with, this product will be so incredibly temporary, it's not funny. This product is NOT a substitute for eating the right foods. Eventually, you'll find that you won't need the Alli so much if your diet is lean and healthy (and fresh!).

If you have any more questions, give me a shout.

Hey I was looking to lose weight back in June of this year and I did all the research and talked to my physicians. All of them recommended me staying away from the diet pills and just working it off. They also suggested Weight Watchers, South beach and a few other lifestyle changes not diets. I did just that. I simply watched what i ate--that's free. you can google anything on the internet and find the calorie content and then you just keep track of that. i also started walking and worked into now running about 6 miles. or around an hour of cardio. i do abouth thirty minutes in the morning before my daughter wakes up and then about fourtyfive minutes to an hour after she goes to bed. i have lost 51 lbs and still going down. and it was all natural and healthy!! Good Luck!!

Hi C.,

I haven't tried Alli but have been thinking about it as well. Alli is the generic brand of Xenical, which is a very widely used diet pill. The way the pill works is it blocks off fat absorbtion to your body. So, you literally get rid of the fat when you go to the bathroom. Some of the side effects are loose bowels, greasy stools, etc. This can continue until you start eating a diet that is lower in fat content. This is why I haven't started using it yet. I am scared to death I will be in a store and have to "go"!

I have at least 80lbs. to lose. And Alli seems to be a great way to do it, if it is managed properly. I just don't know if I can do that. I would suggest you talk to you physician about it. There are other medications out there that may help you better with less side effects.

Let us know if you decide to try it.

Blessings,

T. Ashe

I personally haven't tried this nor do I want to with the adverse side effects. One thing I do know that works it Weight Watchers. I have been helping my husband with it for two months now and he has lost 25lbs. He only does the online version from their website. His work schedule doesn't allow him to go to meetings. He calls me from work and tells me what he eats and I put it in for him. It only took him a week or two adjusting to get used to it. After the first month he started exercising too. He waited to exercise to see if the weight would come off with the diet alone and it did. Weight Watchers is not a pill or a quick fix but it has made him and me be more aware of what we are eating and the amounts of it. I am thinking of doing it myself after seeing him do so well. The key to losing the weight though is following it to a T. The online program is easy to figure out and I haven't found a food yet that I couldn't find or figure out how to put it in. When I cook at home(he is a chef so he cooks at work and doesn't much at home) I look up each ingredient first to see how much he can have. They also have cheat points that come in handy when we eat out. He takes bread to work and eats grilled chix sandwiches piled high with fresh tomatoes, watercress, mustard, onion, whatever. He and I have figured out so many things to make that he doesn't feel hungry or not satisfied. Anyways I have found out it all boils down to putting your mind to it and doing it and sticking to it. Good luck.
