My nephew is allergic to red dye #40. They make many substitutes for things that have it. He takes the tylenol that is white and he avoids everything else. Good luck!
My 19 month old is allergic to red dye #40, we found out by giving her red tylenol when she was an infant, and I am looking to see if anyone else has a similar allergy. My struggle is that all things have dye in them. Most yogurt, and thing that is flavored and especially candy! I just want to see if anyone out there has a similar allergy?

There are a lot of children with an allergy to food dyes and most don't even know it. Doctors have found direct links to behavioral and concentration issues like ODD and ADHD with food dyes. You will need to be careful what you give, and become a label reader. Most things that you can make fresh at home will be free of dyes, and be careful when taking her out to eat as there are hidden dyes even in macaroni and cheese, some which may contain red food dye. We have found that those colored gold fish are the worst. My daughter does not normal react to food like that, but about 5 minutes after eating them she was a wild creature, would not obey, and was basically out of control and was like that for about 2 hours. After the second serving we realized it was the colored gold fish and she has never had them again. I wish you the best.
Allergies to red dye #40 are more common than most people thing. My friends daughter is allergic to it also. It doesn't bother her to eat it, but if she gets it on her skin she breaks out in a rash. Don't worry, you're not alone!
I was allergic to it growing up but grew out of it. It made me really hyper.
We are not allergic to red dye, but as a rule I try to stay away from it and foods with dyes in general. Just read lables. It usually follows that anything with red dye has lots of sugar, or worse corn syrup in it, and you should stay away from it anyway. You can get vanilla or plain yogurt, dye free tylenol, etc. All the most healthy foods have no dyes in them, and that's what kids should be eating anyway!
My kids don't, but my stepmom's nephew is severely allergic. There have been a couple times that he injested something that they didn't even think had it in it, so I would say read every label, tho I am sure you already do. My neice is allergic to the blue dye, but I don't think that is as commonly found and she just gets diarrhea. I do know tho that the red dye is in alot of things. GL.

When my son was 4 he was allergic to red dye .But his was red kool aid .And any red drink. My son tried a red drink just to see if it bother him when he was 15 ,He is 16 now and he can drink anything red it doesn't bother him.
What reactions did she have to the red dye..I took zithromax and it had a red coating and I wondered if that was what gave me lightheadedness and headaches...it is hard to figure out what it is if you take different things and eat alot of different things..I had to back up and take 1 food item at a time or 1 medicine at a time and wait and see..C.
dear M.!
I am 22yrs old and I am allergic to all numbers of red dye! It was really hard growing up, but I survived just fine! I think valentines day at school was always the worst (smile)!!! Ok you can get other things that dont have red dye, they have natural fruit juices made of 100% juice, there is vanilla yogurt and you can get fresh fruit and give it to them that way, you can find color free medication always ask your doctor when he gives her med. non colored but they always mess that up even if you tell them (just go back or call and tell them you need a differant kind of med that isnt red) lets see candy there is always chocolate without coatings and you know growing up we didnt get a whole lot of candy so that was not a big one! (I am so sorry if there is a ton of spelling err. I am trying to type fast with my youngest sitting on my lap) Ok lets see what else, jello there is a mix that you can use to make jelly's and jams ext. it is colorless and you just mix it with other juices, my mom made me jello all the time! there is a lot of things that you can do and it is easier that you know the what causes it now and not later! I promise you that as they grow and become an adult you learn your limits and how much you can have, like I can have red things now but I can OD if I am not paying attention it is like I was on speed and sometimes I would throw up, the next day I would have these black circles under my eyes like when your tired but 20 times worse. My mom called it the "crash", I would get really emotional and depressed! Even when I got older I would come home from high school and my mom would just look at me and tell me that I had red food coloring. I could never hide it! Well I dont know if any of this helps you out! here is a little history lesson for you your child is not allergic to the color red it is how they make the color it is a crushed bettle form south or central america. Your kido is allergic to the bug! I think my kidos are sensitive to it too not a bad case thank goodness! Well I guess that is about it if you have any other questions please let me know and I will be more than willing to help you out! I works out I promise hang in there you will adjust and so will your kido.
Always K.
Hi M.,
My nephew was allergic to red #40. He's in college now and seems to be OK. He couldn't have a number of sodas, quite a few cereals, lots of candy...even things you wouldn't expect! You will become an expert label reader. My husband is allergic to MSG. You'd be surprised how many things have those things in them!!
Good luck!
My good friends son is allergic to red dye 40
