It's Kenny Loggins "All the Pretty Little Ponies. Google for lyrics on the web and should you find the words.

Hush-a-bye, don't you cry,
Go to sleepy little baby.
When you wake, you shall have,
All the pretty little horses.
Blacks and bays, dapples and greys,
Go to sleepy you little baby,
Hush-a-bye, don't you cry,
Go to sleepy little baby.
Daddys boy mamas joy
go to slumberland my baby
When you wake, you shall have,
All the pretty little horses.
hush your crys
close your eyes
dream of pretty little horses
hush a bye dont you cry go to sleep my little baby
darkness falls sand man calls
go to sleep my little baby
When you wake, you shall have,
All the pretty little horses.
up and down round and round
dream of pretty little horses
hush a bye dont you cry go to sleep my little baby
go to sleep my little baby.

I loved this one too until I heard the original (not the one above) as it pertained to slavery =(

This is a lovely Copland piece that I sang in concert several times. The rendition with piano sounds like horses galloping, so if you get a chance, get the recording of it with piano. Of course, the orchestral version is lovely too, but some how doesn't sound as much like horses.

The following words are the actual ones from Copland's music, not the same as the "folk edition":

Hush you bye,
Don't you cry,
Go to sleepy little baby.
When you wake,
You shall have,
All the pretty little horses.

Blacks and bays,
Dapples and grays,
Coach and six-a little horses.
Blacks and bays,
Dapples and grays,
Coach and six-a little horses.

Hush you bye,
Don't you cry,
Go to sleepy little baby.
When you wake,
You'll have sweet cake and
All the pretty little horses.

A brown and gray and a black and a bay and a
Coach and six-a little horses.
A black and a bay ad a brown and a gray and a
Coach and six-a little horses.

Hush you bye,
Don't you cry,
Oh you pretty little baby.
Go to sleepy little baby.
Oh you pretty little baby.

Enjoy! Dawn

We had it on a Kenny Loggins lullaby CD when my (now almost 17 year old) daughter was a baby and loved it. She wore that cassette tape (old , I know!) right out and we had to get 2 more copies (it played round and round all night long on the player we had).

His said "pretty little ponies" I think. I believe it was "Return to pooh corner" CD

Kenny Loggins recorded this song (only he called them ponies instead of horses)

Hush a bye
Don't you cry
Go to sleep my little baby
When you wake
You shall have
All the pretty little ponies

In your bed
Momma said
Baby's riding off to dreamland
One by one
They've begun
Dance and prance for little baby
Blacks and bays
Dapples and greys
Running in the night
When you wake
You shall have
All the pretty little ponies

Chorus:
Can you see the little ponies
Dance before your eyes
All the pretty little ponies
Will be there when you arise

Change Chorus:
can you see the little ponies
shine before your eyes
all the pretty little ponies
gonna be there when you arrive

Hush a bye dont you cry go to
sleep my little baby.
when you wakle you shall have
all the pretty little ponies

All the pretty little ponies

You've already gotten the lyrics....

but...when I saw that bit of lyrics, I could hear Mary of "Peter, Paul, and Mary" singing it..

Guess that shows how old I am!

". . . the song embodies a cruel irony: slave caretakers comforting the masters' babies with assurances of their material privileges. Scarborough (1925:144-47) observed the song sung specifically for that purpose."

So, yes, the song's origins are from slavery, but it's not about slavery, nor does it promote the idea of slavery. It has a lovely melody and makes a wonderful lullaby as well as nice memories for your child.

Here's how I learned it from my mom--slightly different than what is on Google, but a little sweeter I think. I sang it to my boys all the time. It's interesting that my version mentions "pintos"--maybe reflects my upbringing in the southwest.

Hush-a-bye, don't you cry,
Go to sleep my little baby.
When you wake you shall have
All the pretty little horses.
Dapples and greys, pintos and bays,
All the pretty little horses.

Way down yonder, in the meadow,
There's a poor little baby crying "mama"
The birds and the butterflies flutter 'round its eyes,
Poor little baby crying "mama".

Hush-a-bye, don't you cry,
Go to sleep my little baby.
When you wake you shall have
All the pretty little horses.
Dapples and greys, pintos and bays,
All the pretty little horses.
