Airplanes to Hang from Ceiling

My little boy's room is kind of a nautical theme...mostly just sailboats. I thought it would be fun to hang a few small airplanes from the ceiling. Any idea of where to get some that are cute but not too pricey?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks Moms! So many great ideas...not sure where to look first. I haven't decided on what kinds of planes (metal, all painted on color, old style etc) that I want to hang. It's just one of those things that I will figure out when I see the right planes. I just think they would be so cute. My son is only 22 months right now, but I think the planes are something that would grow with him. Plus, he is obsessed with planes now, so I think he would love seeing them on his ceiling :-) Thanks again. I'll post what planes I find and where I found them...I what I've decided on.

You have some great ideas here but I thought of something supper inexpensive. You coud do the balsa wood gliders that come in a package and spray paint them all the same color and hang them in a couple clusters around the room. I would vary the hight of them within the clusters. Good Luck!

We purchased ours at Homegoods, we were able to get 3 different ones and the most expensive was about $12.00.

I would say if you are trying to go with the more metal looking ones that are really cool without actually making them, then go to Hobby Lobby. They have so many cool things that are already made that you can buy. Or you can buy the really easy kits and put them together yourself. Anyway after that, use fishing line to hang them from the ceiling. It's sturdy and virtually impossible to see. I'm sure Hobby Lobby has coupons like Michael's does, so just ask or look in the paper.
Have fun, it looks so neat for boys rooms. We did it for my son's room when he was little. Then we bought just some smaller planes, like where the Hot Wheels were in Target and put around as well. I didn't look to see how old your son was, so that might be a factor.

I made my son's room into an airplane room when he was a baby, it was so cute! I painted the walls sky blue, then bought some white textured paint and sponged clouds on the wall. Then I bought wallpaper border that had planes on it and cut the planes out to stick on the walls just by themselves randomly. I went to Cracker Barrel one day and found some really neat, inexpensive metal airplanes. I hung them randomly from the ceiling with fishing wire. I was there last year and saw that they still carry them, so I'd check there

Michaels has small wooden ones on their dollar aisle that you can paint to match the room.

HomeGoods sometimes has them. I don't remember what they cost but that is probably one of the cheapest places you will find them.

Hobby Lobby. I have my son's room in "old fashioned vehicles" - with old fire trucks, cars, and airplanes from his ceiling. Sign up at Hobbylobby.com and they email out 40% off coupons all of the time. Hopefully there is one by you.
