I was wondering if anyone had had trouble putting there 4.5 month old down for naps. She has been an excelent sleeper. She started sleeping through the night at the first month and has been good ever since. She is scheduled on her naps, but now when i see her getting tired i try to put her down for a nap she throws a screaming tantrum. I have let her cry it out, i have rocked her, i have fed her. It's so abnormal for her. I think she could be teething but she doesn't do this when it's time for bed at night. I thought maybe it was caffeene related so i have cut that out but still no improvements. Any suggestions?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

All good advice. Thanks for the help. I will try to work it out. The giong down at night has gotten better I calm and relax her and then nurse her. Naps have been the same though. Since it's hard for me to spend the time calming her first.

Some babies refuse to be scheduled. Just as soon as you think you have their routine down, it changes. If she is fighting that hard, she may be tired but have too much pent-up energy to sleep. I would let my daughter just wear herself out occasionally and then she'd establish a new routine on her own. Best of luck.

She may just be more aware and alert than others her age. Or maybe she needs to cut out one of her daytime naps even though she may seem tired to you. You can always try Orajel to see if it helps in case she is teething.

Are you nursing? I am assuming that it is you "cutting out the caffeine", right? In this day and age you can never tell, just saw on a 20/20 special a thing where parents were giving newborns coke in bottles.
I noticed her age is just over 4 months, have you started solidds with her - if so, maybe she is uncomfortable due to a reaction from a new food.
Just a thought.

Hyland's teething tablets. they work GREAT. they're all natural and much safer than tylenol. you can use them everyday. my girls slept so much better with them. target sells them the cheapest, but you can find them at all kinds of drug/retail stores.

Both my sons went through weird sleep stuff at that age. Just keep trying. Also, you may be waiting too long and so she's over-tired by the time you try to put her down. The first time she yawns, acts the least bit cranky, rubs her eyes, put her down and see if it makes a difference. Don't make her scream for a long time, CIO really doesn't work for the majority of people and only teaches a child that she has to let it go because you don't care enough to sooth her (people will tell you that it teaches them to self-sooth, but I guarantee that's not how a baby sees it).
