My 9 year old son attends a private school in Perry Hall Maryland and I would will need someone to pick him up from school each day and care for him until around 5:45. I am at a lost as to what to do. Do anyone know of someone that offers some sort of After care/ pick up service.

What can I do next?

Call the school.
There are usually a few day cares that pick up from schools.
Or look on care.com for someone.
Ask around. What do other families near you do?

See if there's a taekwondo place nearby that either picks up after school or has a bus that will drop your kid off at their center.
Ask at the school if there are places like that - there are usually several.

Check with the school. When our kids were in private school (2 different ones) the school had its own after-care program. It was an additional fee per week and had set operating hours. One school offered before-school care as well, for parents who had to drop off earlier than school hours in order to get to a job on time.

The ones that were associated with the schools (in my experience) do not offer transportation, b/c they don't need it. The kids are already at the school, and they stay there (normally in a different designated area of the school campus/building) until you arrive to pick them up at the end of the day. It is also typical for them to charge an exorbitant rate per 5 minutes for each 5 minutes you are later than picking up than their stated pick-up hours. So make note of that when you look at the paperwork.
Most are open until 5:30 or 6:00, but check with your school for what their program offers.

day cares, in home daycares and talking to the school are great ways to find a responsible party to care for your child after school.
you can look in the phone book to get the daycare numbers.

You may want to talk to the school. Often schools know about those services or daycares that your child can be bussed to instead of being on-site. Do they have on-site care? Many do.

You need to check locally, this is a national site.
Ask the school first, they usually have local daycare information.
Second, for this type of care I would just hire a college student. Call the local college(s) and place a job posting.
There's also some websites like care.com but really a college kid is usually best, they are more fun for your child and they need the $!
(I assume you are new to your town and don't know any other parents yet because of course that would be the best resource.)

If your school does not offer after school care then you can contact your local child care licensing offices for a list of local providers.

In Oklahoma we go to okdhs.org then follow the links for child care, then parents, then find child care. We can check off things on a list and then get a list of every licensed provider in our area. If we click on the name of the business we can get a look at their most current inspection results and if there are any concerns.

It's common also to find another parent in that class and find one or two that would take your child home with them after school or during days out of school for a fee. That is often nice because they are a family that has common goals and attitudes about education as you do.

If you can't find a center that picks up at your school and you can't find a parent from the school that would babysit for a couple of hours per day then you might have to turn to neighbors and friends who are home at that time. When people find they might be able to make a little extra spending money they will consider an option they didn't know about before.

Have you asked the parents of any of his friends? My kids always had responsible friends so I didn't mind dragging them home with me. Never did it ongoing but then, no one ever asked.
