My niece and nephew are getting a PlayStation 3 for Christmas. I would like to get them a game or games as a Christmas gift, but I don't know anything about them. My nephew is 8 my niece is 13. I was thinking of something along the lines of a car race, baseball, football, fishing, or family game, i.e. "Are you smarter than a 5th grader," "Board Games," etc. Any suggestions on which ones are well like (by parents as well as the kids) or better yet, which ones to avoid.

What can I do next?

Boys at that age really like racing games. Of course you would want to get them games that are age appropriate, and not any rated 'R' games. It will show the rating on the front of the cover.

YOu can ask the clerk at the store that you go to which games are top sellers for boys and girls their ages, and I find that they are extremely helpful. I go to gamestop for my kids games. You can also go to gamestop.com and look up the top sellers.

My son is almost 7 and he likes to play a PS2 game called Jak and Daxter. I have to confess that I love it as well. It is about a boy and his friend who are trying to save the world, well, their world anyway. It's not very violent, and the charcters are not really human, so it has an otherworldly quality about it. They have to collect the egg-like things called Precursor Orbs and earn Power Cells that allow them to advance to different levels. It's a lot of fun and not too difficult. I highly recommend it. In fact, we have already saved the world twice and are going to Jak and Daxter 2 for Christmas. It is rated E for everyone.

For the PS3, I would recomend Little Big World http://www.littlebigplanet.com/, or the Lego Indiana Jones game.
Also, PS2 games can be played on the PS3 (which is really great because there is not a large variety of family friendly or kid friendly gnmaes for the PS3 platform)
I would recomend any of the Kingdom Hearts games, Guitar Hero, Lego Batman, Lego Starwars, Spyro the Dragon.

My 8 year old love legos and the batman lego game, hot wheels racing or the Madden 09 probably would be another good choice if he likes footaball for either PS2 or PS3. My daughter is 11 and likes the SIMS and Thrillville games.

Hi C.. Last year I bought Guitar Hero for my niece & nephew. They LOVE it! Rock Band is also a lot of fun. A lot of girls like the Sims games as well. Have fun shopping! H.
