Hi,
I am about 37 weeks pregnant and can go into labor at any moment, I have a two and a half year old and I've nevwer been away from him for more than a couple hours. We are not from Crystal lake although we have lived here for about 2 years. I don't know many people and I am a little scared about leaving my son for my stay in the hospital. He is going to my husband's coworker's for the labor. I guess I just needed to put this out there. I know my son will be fine I guess I just wanted to see what you others moms would say! Thank you so much.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you all for your responses!
Fortunately I went into labor in the morning so I was at the hospital during the day and I ended up giving birth at 5:55 p.m. on my birthday by the way. My older son did go to my husband's co-worker's house while I was laboring. Then he brought my son to the hospital and to see the baby. So that night my husband took him home and slept with him and they came and saw me the next morning. My son was just fine!! I was the one that wasn't I suppose. But its been six weeks and everything is going well, my older son really has no interest in the baby right now!! I know that will change when the baby does more!! Thanks again everyone!!

I am in the same boat. My son will be 18 months old when our second one arrives and we have no family in the area. He will be staying with one of my friends on that day and I have another one for back up just in case. I am trying to have him around these two friends with and without me and spend time with Daddy without me as much as possible until then. I am all for the letting them spoil him and making sure he has all of the comforts of home with him (favorite toys, cup, pictures, books, etc.) Good luck and congratulations!

Has your son been to thier home yet? Maybe you could leave him there for a couple hours one night while you go out to dinner or run an errand. Maybe he will get comfortable and he will want to go back to play when it is time.

Congratulations!

I am in the same boat.....we live in Cary and we have no family here at all! I'm 30 weeks pg w/ twins and we have it worked out that my DD (20 mths) will go to a friends house (they have kids and she feels comfortable there) during the birth, then (depends on time)my husband will get her and bring her up to see me and the babies....my mom is going to fly up from TX once I am in labor and then she will stay at our home w/DD....but my husband will bring her in to see me twice a day and stay home with her at night....I know Good Shepherd is very flexable with brothers/sisters coming into the room to visit mom and baby and I have heard from friends NIMC was good as well....I hope that helped!

Hi C.,

I would suggest making it an adventure for your 2 1/2 year-old and making sure he's kept busy while he's visiting. Perhaps you could get (or pack) him a sleeping bag/pillow, a backpack, a big brother shirt, a big brother book, a few small new toys, and maybe a craft (e.g. A foamies project or something not too messy-- maybe even something to make for the baby-- they have door hangers at Michaels that are fun to make. He could personalize one for himself and one for the baby). Pack him a disposable camera to document his adventure (don't expect too many good pictures though). Talk up how exciting this adventure is. Also, it's hard to do, but it's probably best to just let the babysitters spoil him with regard to food, etc., just this once (bring on the McDonald's). =)

I hope your delivery runs smoothly. Congratulations!

A.
