I'm ready to start potty training my first born although I don't feel prepared. I was wanting to know when anyone started training at what age and how it went. My daughter just turned 2 last week and I'm going to have my second at the end of January. I thought these next two weeks would be a good time to start I sord of see signs that I think my daughter is capable of learning. She likes flushing the toilet and pushing her diaper around under her pants. When she was a baby she didn't like to eat until her diaper was changed.

What can I do next?

I don't remember when we started this, but my son was fully potty trained by 2 1/2. We had a treat basket with little toys and candies and everytimes he went pee he got 1 treat and a sticker on his potty chart. Poop was 2. After he filled his potty chart of about 30-40 stickers we took it to the store and he got to pick out anything he wanted. After a few months of this, one day I just put him in his underwear and he didn't have an accident!!

You can try to potty train your two year old, but you also have to remember SHE has to be ready. This may or may not be convienient for you. She may start potty training now, but it may take several months. My daughter started potty training right after she turned 2, but didn't really get into the full swing of things until she was almost 3. Every where she went, she had to use the bathroom, sometimes several times. And that was just during the day, it still took several months before she stopped having accidents at night. Let your daughter be ready to be potty trained, don't force it on her if she is not ready. If you force it, it will just take that much longer! Good luck with the potty training and the new baby!

You may try buying the little potty that sits on the floor and going potty at the same time. I did this with my son when he turned one and he was potty trained by 18 months. Just remember that when your new baby comes along she might regress, so be patient.

You know when I read your request, I just had to chuckle to myself because I'm in the exact same boat as you. I'm also in the process of potty training my first born and would like to have her totally trained by the time my 2nd baby is born which is Feb. 2008. She gave me all the signs that she was ready to be trained by constantly taking off her diaper and telling me potty. We are in the potty training process and I really hope and pray :-) that she gets it by Feb. Sometimes she goes on th potty and other times she doesn't. I feel that it doesn't matter with age, but on the baby. I know some mothers's wait until 3 or so but I don't think I can wait that long because she hates to be wet.

I wish you all the luck with the process and if you want to exchange ideas or suggestions just let me know.

BTW...we sold her house just recently just to make room for our new baby and to have room for our oldest to run around.
