Adult Bed Wetting

My partner(30 years of age) woke me up at 2:00 and told me he needed to change the sheets because he'd peed on it. I asked him if it ever happened before and he mentioned it has happened before but not this bad(we've been together for four years and nothing like this has happened) I asked him why it happened and he said he was dreaming he was peeing and it happened in reality. Same thing with all the other times. Has anyone experienced this before? Is it normal?

What can I do next?

Hello Brenda,
Been there, done that! If it continues, I would call the doc but like I tell my kids all the time, accidents happen. Don't worry about it to much. I think sometimes a person just sleeps to good and their dreams kinda get to em in the potty dept. Good luck and don't panic just yet. I think he's probably normal. Time will tell if he needs to see the doc. Shannon

Hi Brenda,

Some adults do deal with enuresis. There's a program at Children's Memorial called Try for Dry, www.tryfordry.com, and the doctors there also work with adults.

He could probably contact them for a consultation.

Best of luck!

M.

So it happens less than once every 4 years? That doesn't sound like a problem to me. I've done it before, and nearly done it before. I don't think that qualifies me as being incontinent, just as sleeping too hard!

I wouldn't worry about it or make a big deal of it, if it was me.

Does he have any other medical or urological problems? High blood pressure? He should speak with his doctor but this can be suggestive of other medical illnesses. Good luck.

I JUST had a conversation about this yesterday with a client. We both said we have had dreams of going to the bathroom, but she has actually peed for real. So though it's probably not super common, it obviously does happen. Like another poster said, if it happens more, then I would have him tell the doctor.

Was he drinking that night? I could see that happening if he was passed out or something. But, it doesn't happen very often so maybe he just had a lot to drink that night and was in a deep sleep. If it happens AGAIN, I'd be asking him to talk to a doctor for a check up.

I've never had that happen to me, but I HAVE dreamt about peeing and woken up scared that I actually did! This happened a lot when I was pregnant and was having to go every 20 minutes (or it seemed).

Hate to say this but yes this has happen to me many times in the past. It only happened to me though when I had a beer or mixed drink. Since I no longer drink it has never happened to me. I am sure some people will say of course because you were drunk and that is not the case at all. It would happen if I drank two beers. I am not sure why but it happened. Hope you get it worked out.

Well, about 5 years ago, I also did this. I had to go to the bathroom for real and knew it but not bad enough to get out of bed yet. I went to sleep and dreameed that I was on the toilet and guess what? I peed. That is the first and only time it has happened to me.
