If the child being adopted is a baby, treat it like a baby shower. Anything necessary of fun for a baby would be appropriate. If it's an older child, maybe something commemorating the day?

A friend of mine recently became grandma to 2 adopted children. She told me her son treated the adoption days as birthdays. I personally would take age-appropriate toys and clothing just like for a regular birthday party.
Is the adoption a newborn or an older child? An adoption party is the same (kinda) as a baby shower. If its a newborn, anything for the baby or the parents. If its for an older child, same therory. Adoption party and adoption annoucements are just proud parents letting everyone know about their new addition and their new joy.
Hi, I'm the Mother of an amazing 11 month old that was adopted (though no adoption shower was given). We threw an adoption shower for my sister and brother-in-law and found the best resources were Adoptive Families magazine (which by the way would be a great gift; a subscription to that great magazine) and I googled adoption shower gift registry or just even adoption shower and got lots of great resources.
How great that you are going to do this for someone!
Have fun!
An age-appropriate gift for the new child! Have fun.
No, but I would think of it as something like a baby shower. Maybe even search babies r us to see if the expecting parents have started a registry. I am sure that they need the necessities depending on the age of the child. Babies need diapers, bottles, everything really and clothes. Car seat, booster seat, toys. Even if they have other children, each child deserves their own special toys and loveies! Picture frames or baby books. That's what I would think.
