Hi I am responding to you because my husband and I have been in the same boat.We also have been diagnosed as infertile,we have struggled with fertility treatments, etc. for over 10 years with no success...it has been a long, hard road.We became foster parents in 1998 with the hope of adopting,we dreamed of a very large family. We have had more than 50 children come and go from our home during that time.We finally were able to adopt 2 years ago and we have 7 children(6 adopted and one I had from a previous marriage). We have 5 girls and 2 boys...ages 3,4,5,13,14,15 and 17.We hoped we'd be able to adopt an infant or a very young sibling group, but that did not happen. The youngest 3 of our children were relatives that we got to adopt and the older ones were our foster children. We loved being foster parents,it is a very rewarding experience but also hard work, time consuming and very hard emotionally because you get attached to the kids and then they move them...over and over again. Also, there are just not many small kids in foster care that are availible for adoption...it can take years to get a small child that you can adopt. The biggest need is for people to adopt older kids, large sibling groups, and kids with disabilities. We would not change a thing because we loved helping kids in need and we have a great family as a result of being foster parents. It can be a wonderful experience and I wish you the very best of luck.Look at the Adoptuskids website...there you can see what type of kids are availible for adoption through the foster care system.
