Does anyone know of any good ADHD or Reading and Writing resources to use at home? My son, age 8 will be working with a tutor during the school year and the schools resources, but we wanted to get started earlier with some kind of learning tool. Maybe it's something that may be available on line or in our library. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

I highly recommend that you consult a professional with his educational evaluation data in hand. Intervention is provided based on his needs, not his diagnosis. You are stabbing in the dark with such broad categories as reading and writing and there are very specific interventions that will be helpful, and others will not help at all.

He should have an IQ test that will show you how he will process information best, and academic testing that will identify what issues are problematic for reading and written expression. Most children with ADHD will have peaks and vallies in the testing data that is going to differ from kid to kid.

Once you have this data, you can get information on interpreting it from WWW.wrightslaw.com in an article called " Understanding Tests and Measurements for Parents and Advocates" Then you can find strategies that will be helpful from Dr Mel Levine or Dr Russell Barkley's books.

I have a book you can pick up for him at the bookstore that I got my ADHD daughter that can help him with some of his symptoms.
" How to calm down and pay attention." It's a book for kids written at their level.

Check out the website:
greatschools.org

also Parents Helping Parents in San Jose is a great resource.
www.php.com

I have tons of catalogs of books for kids with autism, etc., so I'm sure there are lots of things out there for ADHD. The more you can focus on what your child's needs really are the better you can spend your time and money.

I'd start with a call or visit to Parents Helping Parents.
