My brother-in-law and his family from Wisconsin are visiting/staying with us in Gilbert, AZ this spring. Of course they will hang out with us, but I want to give them options for getting out of our house since my kids are 2 and newborn. We haven't been here long enough to know much yet.
Any ideas what we can tell them to do? They have a
5 year old girl and 7 year old boy.
What could we tell them for places, events, food?
Any restaurant suggestions for just the parents if they do a date night or two?
Thanks for all your imput.

What can I do next?

Phoenix Zoo, Desert Botanical Garden (all desert plants which is really neat), The Colossal Cave and the other cave (name escapes me) down in Tucson area, The Saguaro National Monument is in the Tucson area ( drive or hike through the heavily concentrated area of saguaros), Tombstone, Sedona (they can take Jeep Tours or just go for a hike or shop and there is a Kiwanis park where the kids can just play), The Tonto Natural Bridge just N. of Payson is neat and a good hike, the Montezuma Castle (ancient cliff dwelling ruins) is on the way to Sedona right off of I-17 ( a fairly quick stop, but kinda neat) horseback riding at South Mountain (not sure if they have age requirements). The Heard Museum is a great Southwestern Native American museum, The Science Center downtown is always fun for kids. And the Musical Instrument Museum (MIM) in the N. Valley is cool. Hope that helps. I'd google the different activities and have printouts to give them to look through.

Not sure how active they are or how long their stay is… if they want to stay in town, maybe suggest they take the light rail from Mesa to Tempe and hike A Mtn. It's the ASU Mtn in downtown Tempe, the light rail stops right in front of it and it's easily climbable for most kids (my 4yr old daughter hiked it all by herself). Then they can grab a bite to eat afterward just a block or two away. The zoo's always a good choice too. If they're coming in March, definitely go see a spring training game. Maybe go to Lost Dutchman mine outside of Apache Junction in the Superstitions and some restaurant out that way - Mining Camp, I think? To get the old cowboy way of life. Or there's this place in Gilbert, Rockin R Ranch (on Baseline, between Recker and Power - you can get certificates on restaurant.com) that comes with dinner and a fun show, plus an old-time shoot-out. Kids can pan for gold. It's an old town theme, a little cheesy, but fun to do at least once. There's also Joe's Farm Grill that you should definitely check out. It's on Ray, just west of Higley. Most of their food is local and veggies/herbs are grown adjacent to the restaurant. Not to mention yummy! Freestone Park is in Gilbert off of Lindsey that has a train and a few rides, with a large lake to feed ducks and a couple of playgrounds, skate park, batting cages. Plenty of room to roam, have a picnic, enjoy the nice spring weather. Hope this helps. Have fun!

I grew up in AZ and lived in Phoenix for a while. There are TONS of things to do. The Phoenix zoo is great and it will be an all day activity. Look in the phone book or on the internet. Things change so fast there and I am not up on it all.
