Hey mamas

I will be going to Georgia specifically ATL in a few weeks with my two sons ages 8 and 10 and would like some ideas on places to visit, activities to do, etc while we're there that are free or inexpensive. So far, we plan on visiting the Georgia aquarium, the Coca Cola museum and taking the CNN tour? Can I get any of these tickets at discounted prices? Open to all suggestions and advice. Thanks in advance

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Wanted to say thanks to everyone for all of their suggestions, comments, advice, etc. I will definitely buy a city pass. I must say, this is definitely not my first trip to Atlanta. I have visited numerous times, it's just been about 4 years since my last visit. So far, we have been to the Underground mall, the Atlanta zoo, the Aquarium, the MLK center, MLK childhood home and church to name a few but I know there are other places that I have yet to visit and wanted to get the most out of my trip this time around. I truly appreciate all of your help and will visit most of your suggestions. I will keep you posted as my trip approaches. thanks again.

http://www.atlanta.net/Visitors/seedo/cityPass.html is a site where you can combine several attractions together for discounts. We've never used it before but have recommended it to others that said it was great!

There are sooooo many things to do! Enjoy!

I believe you can buy bundled tickets for the aquarium, coke, and the Atlanta zoo. Check out the Zoo Atlanta or aquarium ticket page for more info. The Imagine It museum for kids is also fun and you can get really cheap tickets to see the Braves if you're interested. I am not a huge fan of the new coke attraction (it's kind of an expensive ad campaign- and I love Coke)- but kids would still like the tasting room. Stone mountain is another place to consider- pack a picnic and find a place on the lawn early (for free) to watch the laser show. The other attractions there are not free. If willing to drive a couple of hours south, Wild Animal Safari in Pine Mountain is great (rent the van!) and affordable. For kid friendly food: the Varsity (classic Atl), Mary Mac's Tea Room, and Marietta Diner. Have fun and welcome to Georgia!

I definitely agree with the other moms that recommended Stone Mountain. Check out their website. You don't have the buy the whole park pass unless you plan doing most of the attractions (ropes course, Sky Ride, train ride). The ropes course is neat and you can hike to the top of Stone Mtn too. We love it there. They have food onsite if you don't want to pack a picnic.
We also love the Chattahoochee River area just north of the city. You can kayak/canoe down the river. There are many outfitters than can get you out and about, not sure the cost though. We used Shoot the Hooch once and had fun.
Have fun!

we enjoyed the fernbank museum, but it cost $50 for two adults and a child.
there was a city discount pass that saved. six flags over atlanta would be fun and you can get in after 3 really cheap.

Go to a game! You can usually get tickets for cheap, and it's fun just being in the ballpark.

Walk around underground Atlanta. You could also do the Cyclorama which is right by the zoo.

Feel free to PM me! I'm one of the few natives who actually lives in the city! Centennial Park is in the middle of the aquarium, world of coke and CNN complex. The Olympic ring splash pad is fun. I live down the street from the zoo. It's really nice and the Cyclorama is very cool right there. Bring your swimsuits and go over to Grant Park pool to cool off! The zoo and Cyclorama are in Grant Park. Get a City Pass thst will give you discounts to the places you're planning on already. The High Museum is great as well. Not sure how far afield you want to venture, but Kennesaw Mtn national battlefield and park north of Atlanta is great, and you should really try to spend a day at Stone Mountain. They have a ropes course (and other stuff) that you and the boys would love! Bodies The Exhibition and Dialogues in the Dark at Atlantic Station are AWESOME! These aren't cheap, but you can usually get a pass for both at a discount: Six Flags and Skull Island and then White Water/American Adventures. Six Flags is out I-20 and White Water is up 75 in Marietta. Have fun! Also, go into the Westin Peachtree Plaza downtown and ride the outside elevator up to the Sundial restaurant. Amazing view and you can see both Stone Mtn and Kennesaw Mtn opposite one another.

If the Braves are in town, you can get tickets for as low as $8 each. They used to sell seats in the last row for $1 each, but I don't know if they do that anymore.

You should go to the ML King Center. I think it is free. If not, it is very inexpensive. You can even do tour of the his old church and the house he grew up in. They are run by the National Parks service.
