Hi S.,
As a nutritionist and wellness educator, acai berry is an amazon berry with amazing anti-oxidant benefits. Acai berry is also high in omega-3's, as much protein as one egg and high in fiber, and there is where the weight loss claim comes from...essentially if you aim to eat the recommended 25-35g of fiber per day, we would all lose weight...the average woman gets about 12-15g per day...you can see where I am going. I use acai berry and sprinkle it on my foods, whenever you increase fiber, you have to increase your water intake, otherwise the opposite will happen...you will get constipated. Fiber is the buzz word for 2009, so you are going to see more foods infused with fiber b/c we all lack it, high fiber diets help decrease risk for heart disease, cancer especially colon, diabetes, etc. For example, the potato that has gotten a bad rap has 4g of fiber, more potassium than a banana and high in magnesium which a lack of can cause sugar cravings. Get a baked potato put some salsa on it for a serving of veggies and a little avocado for fat and you have yourself a fabulous, well-balanced snack. I eat an apple first thing in the morning, one for fiber, two, so I know I am getting at least one serving of fruit in my day, we are human and we all can forget to eat our daily servings, though 2-3 servings of fruit is plenty and ideal. If you want more info on high fiber diets, this one is pretty good. www.fiber35diet.com her fiber sprinkle is acai berry.
Good Luck
